What the current administration is doing has been a long game push by aforementioned to deregulate corporations on all levels, deregulate Wall St. trading, hollow out, defund or eliminate the Civil Rights amendments ..... essentially turn back the clock before the FDR New Deal.

i would argue the Supreme Court is the key culprit in this tilt towards civil war.

IMO the key factors of societal split today, as opposed to the long arc of coming together since the end of slavery is most impacted by the extreme gerrymandering/Voting rights destructions and the loss of power to Congress, while pushing all power up to the POTUS who has a sole check, which happens to be the SC.

Congress was meant to the 'first amongst equals' branch in gov't as it is the one that truly represents the people and yet this SC gives COngress the ability to create no laws that the POTUS or they themselves cannot just over rule or ignore. Something the Federalist Society wanted because it is easier to control.

When it comes to extreme gerrymandering and voting rights that is the long term Federalist Society wish list item. Extreme gerrymandering and such safe seats REQUIRE in almost all districts the politician to pander to the extremes. Without safe seats, when you need some level of bipartisan or independent support the politician will push that type of message.

When you have the politicians being the worst of us instead of coming from amongst the better of us that will lead to this type of country bifurcation.

Yes the right should be careful what they wish for , I am waiting to see just how many of them start crying after the mid terms when the rest of the BBB go into effect.
I still wonder why the right didn't want all of it to go into effect right away, what are they hiding?
Their cutting of SNAP has already hurt some of them and more to come then we have the cuts in Medicare and Medicaid.
It will be interesting to watch.
