Yale Study: Gas Cars Produce More Supply Chain Emissions Than EVs.

If you put solar panels on your roof in Dallas you would have to replace them every few years after hail storms.

Really? Solar panels are rated for 1" hail falling at 50mph. 1" hail would mean that everyone in Dallas is replacing their roof every few years because shingles aren't rated for that impact. But I guess you think People in Dallas are too stupid to buy insurance for their homes which would replace damaged roofs and damaged solar panels.

In a state with a lot of sun prices don't go down. Supply and demand dictate prices not consumer affairs.

Consumer affairs doesn't set prices. They report what current prices are. Current prices are current prices they don't change because the sun went down or came up.

I'm not advocating for a monopoly either, I'm just being a realist. In an ideal world we'd be able to elect people with integrity and the means of production would be more widely distributed than to only the ultra wealthy.

But the goal is to eliminate gas powered vehicles. That won't help prices. I'm not sure govt dictating the means of production is a good thing.

It sure does.

This is from your article

"The average cost to install solar panels in the United States is about $12,000 after federal tax incentives. On the low end, you can install a smaller system for around $5,000, while a high-priced Tier 1 solar panel system can cost $40,000 or more."

The prices you quote are after tax incentives.

Yes insurance in Dallas is very high. I have replaced my roof twice in 12 years we also pay high deductable on roofs and solar panels. I guess you think insurance companies are too stupid to recoup their losses .

And our electric consumption would increase and our fuel to generate electricity would go up will our as gas production goes down because of restriction on drilling leases and fracking. Thanks Brandon Maybe we can all just freeze to death so that we all can still drive on EVs.

ROFLMAO. You really like to prove you are stupid.

The BTUs to produce the electricity to power EV cars would be half the BTUs required to power ICE cars. That means as electric consumption increases, BTU consumption decreases. When BTU consumption decreases we need less drilling and fracking because we don't need as much fuel.

I suppose you paid for re-shingling the roof yourself both times since you don't believe home insurance covers what is on top of your roof.
Oh the insurance paid everything after my 10K roof deductible kicked in. BTW I pay 6K a year for home owner's insurance too. Got anymore stupid comments  You do realize insurance isn't free don't you?

Ice Cars are running on oil. EVs are running on electricity mostly made from natural gas. Homes are heated for the most part by natural gas or electricity made by natural gas. Solar does not work at night when temperatures are the coldest. Wind reduces after sunset when temperature go down . People also charge cars at night when electric demand for heating is the highest. So if we don't increase natural gas production your EVs are going to have to stay parked or people are going to freeze.

Never claimed ICE cars were efficient only that EVs were running on Fossil fuels so if we destroy fossil fuel production we also kill the fuel that EVs are running on. Biden has hurt Natural gas and oil production.

No, the real issue becomes if ICE cars disappear, the need for oil doesn't disappear. But the amount needed falls significantly. This means the price of oil per barrel will rise significantly and in doing so, the cost of things like plastics, medicine, and everything else made with oil will rise significantly too. So, not only will cars cost more but a lot of other stuff will too.

That's why we'll clear cut down vast tracks of forest to provide the wood pellets for your pellet stove to keep your house warm because oil is evil don't ya know?

Congratulations you have shown you understand some things. Now can you understand that EVs running on electricity produced by natural gas are twice as efficient as ICE cars.

I see. You don't seem to understand that drilling and fracking also occurs for oil and that would be reduced by more than the drilling increase required for natural gas. Total drilling and fracking is reduced but the type of fuel extracted changes.

Electric demand is highest during the day. Even if we increase the amount of electricity needed at night by plugging in EVs, the electricity needed at night will not exceed what is used during the day. According to the EIA, the average electric use at night is about 50-70% of the peak electric used during the afternoon in July.
https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=42915

Wind speeds over land are reduced at night. Wind speeds over oceans are increased at night. But the winds don't suddenly stop blowing when the sun goes down and the wind speeds are not the same every day for every sq meter of the earth's surface. Being unable to top off an EV one night doesn't affect it's ability to drive the next day. It only reduces the possible range. Most people will be able to go 4-5 days without being required to charge their EV. While there are technical issues that need to be solved they are not insurmountable. Batteries charged during the day can provide electricity at night. (See the current technology advancements in iron flow batteries) EV's plugged in at 4PM will still see solar power being produced for most of the year. Everything you complain about is solvable.

It would be if we could ever wrench the government out of the hands of corporations/the wealthy.

That's already happening to farm cattle to maintain your fat gut. But God forbid anyone tell you to put your burger down.

Hardly. Ethanol farming is a far greater disaster. The government is paying farmers to grow vast crops of corn to make ethanol as an additive to gasoline to lessen air pollution but is creating more pollution from the ethanol manufacturing process than is saved by adding it to gasoline.

Why do you think economic theory will suddenly go away if the demand for oil is reduced? Reduced demand will likely result in reduced prices. If we are using natural gas then there will be plenty of oil around as a byproduct of the natural gas extraction. The price of a barrel of oil will drop because of the oversupply.

Plastics made from oil are going to reduced as well in the next 50 years. Plastics can be made from renewable sources.

I don't think you read your stories.
Ethanol reduces CO2, NOx and other hydrocarbons but increases ozone. It says nothing about it creating more pollution as a whole. What is interesting is the decrease in NOx is what is causing the ozone.

And then the one group proposes EVs as the alternative to ICE vehicles to reduce all pollution.
