Is the GOP a dead party?

Republicans took the racists away from the Democrats after Democrats embraced civil rights, and Republicans played the Southern Strategy.

Watch Charles Blow correctly school Jeffery Lord -- professional revisionist and distortor of history -- on the betrayal of the Republican party towards black people.

Since the south never had any qualms about embracing leftists like Wilson, FDR, Long, Stevenson, and Carter, it would suggest that the southerners have a leftist character. They just also like being racist.

if you think about it we are taking their slaves away again (the illegals) which is why they are upset.

The west committed suicide a long time ago, by letting in Islamic refugees, and bowing to PC/Multiculturalism.

But back to HC, why are we not trying to get costs down? Regulating the hospitals that jack up HC costs to insane levels. Because "they can." A 1 dollar bag for IV they charge 137 dollars for.

Instead we argue about how to pay for these nonsensical costs. Even with single payer, we are still screwed with high costs, while hospitals will continue to screw.

Multiculturalism is not a bad word to me. I don't blame Muslims nor Mexicans for this nation's plight. But that's just me.

I agree with much of what you've said about healthcare and getting the astronomical costs down. Our costs are far higher than anywhere else for the same treatment and services. However, the number one reason behind that are huge administrative costs to run the system.

Consider this .. Medicare pays lower prices on virtually everything it buys than do private insurance plans .. and single-payer health insurance controls costs by, among other things, reducing administrative expenses, reducing unnecessary healthcare utilization, and reducing the prices paid for medical labor, devices, and drugs.

I agree that the costs are artificially too high .. but until we figure out how to bring those costs down, <SP> we have to provide affordable health insurance to all Americans.

Yup.

There are very few actual liberals around any more.

How many liberals vs leftists do you think are on this board?

Most are liberals, few actual leftists. The Democratic Party is full of liberals, not leftists.

Most republicans would consider the Clintons to be leftists .. which demonstrates that they don't have a clue of what a leftist is.

Socialists have always believed they can win via vocabulary. Meanwhile, Maduro is crushing the opposition down in Venezuela.

On this board I'd say by far we have more people who are about their party than an ideological belief system

Equally, if generalisations are anything to go by, Donald Trumps is doing a great PR job for both articulation and capitalism. Although, admittedly, he's not as adept as crushing opposition yet.

Slightly agree. However there isn't any proof that single payer, or UCH will actually bring costs down. I think a separate control of hospital's chargemaster would be needed.

I would hardly describe that as equal. Maduro is doing far more to keep the socialist PR level than is Douchebag Donald doing to damage the capitalist PR.

You are ascribing ideology to the South where it doesn't exist. The Southern states largely follows whichever party is most racist, which is why the Southern Strategy is effective. Nixon wasn't that conservative. He advocated for universal healthcare and created the EPA. Do you think Trump supporters are conservative? I have news for you. They are told what to believe. These are the same people that supported Bush, then moved to libertarianism (the polar opposite of neoconservatism), then finally landed in the ideology dumpster that is Trumpism.

Trump isn't a republican. You're a moron.

Yes, he is. The Republican party isn't the part of conservatives anymore. That's what you mean. The Republican party started out as a liberal party (not 'classic liberal or libertarian') that promoted civil rights, morphed into a neoliberal/neoconservative party, then became libertarians during Obama's presidency, and now they are the party of Trumpism (the ideology of being an asshole).

Bill Clinton was a liberal slash pragmatist. Hillary was some sort of liberal/neocon hybrid. I think neocon was her first inclination but she had to move to the left on account of Bernie and BLM.

Kennedy was a liberal---and he would also be unelectable as a democrat today. Which should tell you something.

Classical liberals have a libertarian bent and advocate for social progress but still respect freedom of speech. They would distance themselves from the current crop of cultural Marxists. They wouldn't advocate open borders just based on notions of multiculturalism.

I'm not sure there are any classical liberals here at JPP. Nationally, I would call Tulsi Gabbard a liberal in that sense. And she was forced to abandon the DNC out of principle.

He got the party nomination, so, technically he is. What he plans to do to it might not be especially Republican.

he got the party nomination......he's a Republican.......in 18 I predict there will be more like him that get party nominations for Congress......

Kennedy should have been unelectable in 1960, as well.

Forget this nation. Muslims do plenty to bring about their own plight, which is why we reject their culture.

You reject their culture, but there are millions of Muslims living in the US practicing their culture as they choose just as they do all over the planet.

Pew: Why Muslims are the world’s fastest-growing religious group

In the next half century or so, Christianity’s long reign as the world’s largest religion may come to an end, according to a just-released*report that builds on Pew Research Center’s original population growth projections for religious groups.*Indeed, Muslims will grow more than twice as fast as the overall world population between 2015 and 2060 and, in the second half of this century,*will likely surpass Christians*as the world’s largest religious group.

Reject them if you choose .. changes nothing.
