97/72/43 - Approval numbers of the SOTU speech.

Democrats should be wary of those independent numbers.

I saw most of it and thought it was pretty good. Trump has made enough good speeches there’s no reason anyone should be surprised about last night. But I’d like to see Trump take a lesson from last night because he needs it the most.

It needs to dawn on him how much easier things would be for Trump, if Trump would stay out of the way of Trump’s message. The Trump-deranged are a lost cause—Trump will never get them on board. Independent voters are another matter and Never Trump Republicans can become Maybe I Was Wrong About Trump Republicans—-but that’s all up to Trump.

Last night proved he has the message, Trump just needs to stay the hell out of his own way.
Normally, I'd tend to agree. Until I see a link to the poll, in order to view the sampling, I'll remain unimpressed.

Then again, the bar is always set so low for trump, it's hard to tell what question the poll was asking. For most Independents, if his teeth didn't almost fall out (again) by the end of the speech, it was a win.

Please don't be stupid enough to think a poll this early means shit. Although shit is apt, because it's pulled from peoples asses. Who the hell are they polling anyway, and how? What they have a little group of people with dials watching it? What a waste of time.

but of course if the numbers were the other way you and your other loony tune friends would be all over it as evidence.
Yea we get it, you're triggered and have an angle for everything.

Now go away

Trump delivered an America First speech, no other way to hear that, and for you to find it hard to believe that "Americans" liked that, is telling

again, now Go away

Do not ask Trump to change. He is doing just fine. He is keeping the libtard base off message and off their game. They don't know how to respond to him. Look at the shut down. Going in they thought they had all the cards. They would shut it down. Their hand maidens in the liberal press would blame the Republicans and the Republicans would force Trump to cave and its a win for Schumer.

But what happened? Trump starts tweeting Shutdown Schumer. FUCKING BOOM! GAME! SET! MATCH! Joe Manchin said Schumer didn't have the stomach to keep it going any longer so he caved. What did he get for his shut down? Nothing.

Let Trump be Trump. Forget all of the other mess and distractions.

As much as love Reagan, Trump is the man for this time and place in this country's history. When Reagan was President it was partisan, but people were still somewhat reasonable. Today's left have completely gone off the rails and Trump is the ONLY one who will meet them on the playing field and play the game the way they play it.

Look at every NeverTrumper's favorite candidate Mitt Romney. He is about as cordial and affable a guy as there is. What happened to him? He wiped the floor in three debates with Obama. it wasn't even close. Kicked Obama's ass. So what did the media do?

They launched stories about Romney torturing his dog. Bullying some kid way back in boarding school. Killing some guy or some guys wife who had cancer. Binders of women. Magic Underpants. He was viciously attacked. What did Romney do? He did what every RINO NeverTrumper like Cawacko and Threedee think he should do "rise above it all" and "hope that people see the truth". But, Romney got creamed. Trump don't play that shit. They keep hitting him and he keeps hitting back.

I used to think Trump should tweet less, but now I say let Trump be Trump and you should to. Stop worrying about the NeverTrumpers like Cawacko and Threedee. Pride will always keep them from admitting they were wrong. They are little bitches

It was the message and not the delivery. Obama was a better speaker but his message was so-so.

Trump showed a willingness to compromise on immigration but he put American interests of ahead of The Dreamers [Americans are Dreamers too] or immigrants more generally. As a democrat, how do you argue against that?

the question I have is how many democrats and Independents watched the speech. For obvious reasons many could not stomach watching him so the high approval may well be from his deplorable followers.

The Never Trump movement is softening, IMO.

But I totally agree totally with the gist of your post. Trump is the man for the hour.

It’s not that Trump uses Twitter—it’s the way he uses it. Granted, probably 90% of his Tweets are either on message or on a topic our useless media is trying hard to ignore. But the media leaps on the other 10% of them.

And yes, I’m done with the ‘mild mannered mediocrity’ of establishment republicans like Romney. They have gotten us nowhere.

So you think that many missed a great speech? (lol...I bet you also believe the people here who said they weren't going to watch...)
(I'm sorry to see you're ill this morning...looks like the flu...feel better...)

That's what you come up with huh? ^^^

what a sad little man, living in denial is only a bad thing for you, those around you get to laugh

dont they have focus groups stuck in little rooms for speeches like this? I know they do approval on a per line basis not just on a per speech.

Independents didn't believe anything he said. Rightfully so. The supposed poll wanted to know how people felt about the speech...I assume, without the sampling.

trump doesn't give a fuck about 'bi partisan compromise'. Even you don't believe that. trump's policies did nothing to change the economy. In fact, he didn't hit Obama's '16 numbers with respect to jobs.

I think it was very cool that the market dropped almost 600 points in two days, forcing his writers to alter the speech. He barely touched on the market. Now...the tax cuts are going to give short time gains to many in the country....90% of them very wealthy, and the lion's share to corporations. We'll see increased dividends for sure. The corporate tax giveaway is permanent. I'm unimpressed when I see soundbites about bonuses, when behind the scenes, these same companies are laying off workers.

I will be impressed when the corporations give those bonuses every year, and couple it with hiring. After all, thousands of corporations will now be paying zero taxes.

He offered a warped 'deal' on DACA, when in fact his ask in return is unworkable.

Give him credit for actually preparing for this speech, so he didn't stumble.

But...why are the news stations being bombarded this morning with ads that hail the tax cuts? Is this the start of the '18 mid term propaganda cycle?

We'd be in a parallel universe if you degenerates hadn't voted for Perot back in the 90s.

I was out last night, but wouldn't have watched anyway. I rarely sat through an entire Obama speech either. There's plenty of discussion, coupled with segments of the speech to be found today. It was everything I expected. trump and Obama are polar opposites. Obama never sold anything he accomplished, often to his detriment.

trump takes credit for everything that benefits him, and blames others for everything that doesn't.

Why bother to watch that happen in real time?

I dont think so. The left has been establishing a stranglehold on culture which enabled them to do what they did to Romney. That would have happened whoever was President. Whether you admit it or not you need a Trump to teach conservatives to fight back.

A Dem loss in 1992 would have kept them out of power for potentially 20 more years, at least (having already been out of the white house for 12 years).
