Los Angeles painting city streets white in bid to combat climate change

ITS NOT PAINT

its a sealer

the OP lied about it being white and being paint

its light grey sealer
What sets morons like Desh apart, are their unique ability to carry on defending something long after rational people have just walked away. She is prime grade lunatic without a doubt.

Wow. It took 125 posts until someone realized a sealant of any kind on a street will reduce traction. Good call Sir.
Cal. is the "land or hotrods." Many hotrods there run drag slicks or at the least, very wide street tires.
Asphalt is porous, and like your normal street tire, it aids in channeling water. Now, fill those pores with a sealant,
it makes the roadway smoother. Has anyone ever noticed your vehicle hydroplane? If it rains on those sealed roads
it will cause even a normal tire to hydroplane, and coupled with the rubber, dirt and oil deposits on the roadway, it
can be a recipe for disaster.
Has anyone ever heard of the "bleach box" at a drag strip? They water it down with a garden hose to help the cars
break traction to do the burnout. They sure wouldn't "seal" it or the cars would become uncontrollable because it
would become too smooth. Burnouts heat the tires (with friction) so they become sticky for better grip on the track.
That, and coupled with the friction of the porous asphalt, the burnouts are relatively short.
Maybe a sealant would drop the surface temp during a hot sunny day, but it would become a safety concern for any
thinking individual when those roadways become wet.

There are precious few on here with any kind of scientific background, or indeed any common sense come to that.

My "pleasure" car weighs in at 2100 lbs, has over 500HP and has 12" + wide rear tires. I wouldn't want to drive it on any sealed or coated roadway on a sunny day, much less a wet coated roadway.

This exercise basically proves that it is not so much CO2 that is causing the thermometers to read higher, but the gazillions of tonnes of bloody concrete and asphalt we have accumulated over the past century, and did not bother to move the bloody thermometers. Only in California!

Ask yourself why it is that NOAA/GISS still use surface temperatures, when NASA satellites cover the entire planet 24/7. Satellites are far more accurate at measuring global temperatures than the severely flawed surface temperature record.

NASA claims global warming is rapidly occurring, but satellites show very little warming this century. What could possibly motivate the US Space Agency to ignore their own satellites?

Havened Moron doesn't care about science. It's a science even idiots should understand though. Wear a black shirt in summer, and you find out real quick. Asphalt is always one of the hottest surfaces. You could measure concrete temp, and asphalt temp right near each other, and asphalt will be hotter, as black holds onto more heat. It's one reason birds congregate on the side roads in winter.

Black tarmac collects heat during the day and releases it all night.. Even an Englishman should get that.

Havana got real testy when I asked him repeatedly why houses in Bermuda had white step rooftops.

I don't even know what testy means, and care even less, you're not just very bright when it comes to scientific matters. I have already shown that this would cost over billion dollars to do all the roads in Los Angeles county, would only last, maybe seven years, before needing redoing and is not even proven to work. Even the Guardian doubted painting roofs white had any effect, but of course you chose to ignore that!

Here is a quick rule of thumb to remember, if Evince thinks something is a good idea then it's almost invariably bullshit.

NASA says you're wrong.. I posted a link yesterday which you didn't bother to read. Where did you study engineering and thermodynamics?

I didn't study engineering, are you senile? I already told you that I studied chemistry, and thermodynamics is a part of that. What the hell does it matter where I went to university anyway? Do you think that MIT teach a different version of Kirchoff's and Stefan-Boltzmann laws? By the way, chemical engineering is intensely boring, a Welsh friend of mine graduated with a first but then went with PWC. That tells you how boring it is, when somebody chooses accountancy over chemical plumbing.

I have spent enough time in the tropics to know about light clothes and dark clothes, do you wear a pith helmet when you visit Saudi and a white abaya? Talking to you about anything scientific is descending to the sub-moronic, so I won't bother.

I have never worn any Abaya in my life nor a pith helmet.

He is either desperately deluding himself, or just trolling. I think he's trolling, unless he actually doesn't read his sources.

How Painting Roofs White Can Help 'Turn Off The World For A Year ...

https://thinkprogress.org/how-painting-roofs-white-can-help-turn-off-the-world-for-a-...

May 30, 2012 - A NASA survey of New York City's rooftops last July showed that dark, heat-absorbing rooftops were up to 42 degrees F hotter than white rooftops. And that difference in heat can make a big difference in on-site energy use; painting a roof white can reduce air conditioning demand as much as 20 percent.

Stanford University says it may have a detrimental effect by reducing cloud cover, what do you have to say about that Marge?

https://theweek.com/articles/480449/white-roofs-really-reduce-global-warming

Arizona State university is not a big fan either

https://arizonadailyindependent.com...s-global-warming-and-unintended-consequences/

But collecting heat all day on blacktop roads or black rooftops creates cloud clover?

It is a classic case of something that is seemingly simple, so simple even Evince thinks she understands, can have far-reaching and unintended consequences. The scientific world is full of scenarios like that, sadly scientific illiterates are unable to see that.
