Well, Assange is either supremely clueless, or complicit in it because our agencies confirmed that the GRU did the hack and provided that info directly to Assange.
Why would Assange need to lie?
To keep himself out of prison for providing assistance to foreign espionage.

The real effort behind the Russia scam is that the left does not want to discuss the hacked e-mails and the rot and corruption it exposes within the DNC.
