"Nearly half of Republicans think Trump should have authority to shutter media outlet

those are still significant numbers. When one emotes - even I think it would be better for the NYTimes and WAPO to be shut down - they are enemies of real progressivism ( advancing the nation) in favor of being a scandal sheet.
But I do not let emotions rule my politics

LMFAO.
You reek of FEAR, always have.
Your Dunning Kruger effect blocks any insight, you blithering idiot.

The Republicans...by either supporting Trump or at minimum, refusing to castigate him...have surrendered any moral authority they had.

Donald Trump is a danger to the United States...and to the world. EVERYONE should be able to see that. The Republicans have a responsibility to tend to their own.

They are failing.

When did they every have it?

That is a HUGE problem...one the Republicans should be dealing with.

The country has got to vote these miscreants out of office. They do not know how to govern...

...and now it appears they do not know how to be patriots.

Honestly, Blacks have been trying to tell you all this for decades. I guess better late than never.

I'm glad you all are seeing it now.

Further down in the article:

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders refused to denounce the “fake news” moniker, while Ivanka Trump and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have said the press is not the enemy of the people.

A majority of all those polled seemed to agree with [Ivanka] Trump and Graham, with 57 percent saying the media was “necessary to keep the Trump administration honest.”

Keep it honest? Lol! Well, at least that's something.

Presumably around 40% don't think the media is necessary to keep Trump honest. :dunno:

"Forty-three percent of Republicans think President Trump “should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in bad behavior,” while only 36 percent disagreed with the statement, according to an Ipsos poll released Tuesday."

"A large number of Republicans polled also took issue with the media in general, with 48 percent agreeing that the news media is “the enemy of the American people.”

Appears nearly half the GOP has bought into Trump's shtick, even at the cost of the First Amendment, and I remember when conservatives told us they were all about the Constitution.

Amazing how in such a short period of time the GOP has totally forgotten what used to be their core principles, well, what they said were their core principle; character, fiscal conservatism, free trade, supporting allies, free markets, truth, and the rule of law. Now they've become rubber stamps to Trump's narcissism even when it attacks that which they said defined their political beliefs

One step closer to autocracy when others look to the leader of the nation to define what is truth

boy the Russians really got to the republicans

French based polling company polls a thousand Americans, and doesn't even figure for margin of error. Yeah, that sounds legit.

"Bad behavior", eh? So around 20% of Americans think the President should be able to shut down critical media. That is utterly shocking.

Fortunately the Founders saw these fools coming. It would require a Constitutional Amendment and they'll never get it.

Even so, the fact that so many say they want it ... what is the nation coming to?

Added: Has it occurred to them that this would work BOTH WAYS?

Unless a compliant Congress and a sycophant SCOTUS refused to do their Constitutional duty...which in this political climate is entirely possible.

There is always a subset of idiots in any country and every party.

The fact that fully HALF the Republican party is that kind of crazy is troubling

Yes, the President is deeming the media (press) as the enemy of the people, when it is in fact the President who has become the enemy of the people.

Oh, and to the lunkhead who missed, "Ipsos surveyed 1,003 American adults online from Aug. 3 to 6. The poll did not have a margin of error, but had a credibility interval of 3.5 percentage points."

Just the political sections. It has really good food and travel sections.

It doesn't have a "political section," like all papers it has an editorial page, the same page you could find any of those noted conservative opinion writers I cited
