wierd things happing in dow drop

Hold and then start buying next week. I would stay out of financials though. I have this gut instinct that this is going to end up being a currency-driven problem going forward.

I am terrified to look at my 401K. It is all in emerging markets. I will give it a few weeks before I rip that band aid off and peek.

Emerging Markets. Yeah. I can see why you would be terrified. Going forward ... you may want to consider 'D.I.V.E.R.S.I.F.I.C.A.T.I.O.N'

(Don't feel bad, I bought Gold years ago and it has been nothing but 'Dead Money' ever since I bought it. I see it 'inching' up but I don't ever expect it to be near my 'Entry Point' in my lifetime. It's more like a sack of Lead) :(

It is divided mostly between foreign equity and foreign growth, but that is six of one have a dozen of the other. I do it as a hedge against the market. I have enough real estate income to keep me from starving, or will by then once I get some of the loans paid off in about 3-4 years. The last thing I saw before Hurricane Michael pummeled my area was a headline that read something like "emerging markets slaughtered" so I will give it some time to heal over.

I had money in Emerging Markets. I finally took it out. Yes, HUGE market potential, but EM money is shit. Compared to the Dollar, EM money keeps getting devalued. If you do well, but then get paid in Monopoly money, how well have you really done? Then, Trump starts a Trade War with China. So ... the future started to look a little grim. Maybe I'm just getting more conservative in my old age?

(Hope you survived Hurricane Michael, I know what that is like)

Like everything else these days, you hope the value goes up because the dividends sure as hell won't retire you.

Michael was bad. Well, more directly, when michael ran into a cold front and was dumping an inch of rain every ten minutes on us, it was bad. Massive power outages, flash floods, tons of damage. Historical flooding in our area. Most but not all of my raised beds became razed beds in about twenty minutes--plants, walls, dirt all gone. A stone wall gone. A huge rock that takes about 3 people to manhandle on the west side of my property before is now in a ditch on the east side of my property. A section of the east side of my property is now federally regulated airspace as the ground is now gone. Just got power back today. Ironically the cable and phone company trucks were in my neighborhood before it had stopped raining but the electric folks didn't make it until today. Not really their fault though. All the main grid lines into my city except 1 went down in the storm.

Anyway, everything can be fixed, or replaced as far as us. Others were not so lucky, so it has been more an expensive annoyance than a woe is me experience. Just grateful I am not in the lot of some folks around here. Everyone was prepared for Florence. Michael was totally unexpected. We were supposed to get 4 or 5 inches over twelve hours and exceeded that in just 1 hour.

Glad you made it in fairly good shape. I keep seeing pictures of Mexico Beach ... Wow! (reminds me of the Miss. Coast after Katrina)

Thanks. We had some people drown nearby. It was just a drizzly day until that bottom fell out. Caught everyone off guard.
