They aren't eligible for asylum.

Notwithstanding claims to the contrary, undocumented aliens do not have a "right" to apply for asylum in the United States. Asylum is a discretionary form of relief.

The asylum provision in the Immigration and Nationality Act just states that eligible aliens “may” be granted asylum.

The United States is a signatory to the UN’s Convention and Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees. This means that it cannot return or expel “a refugee in any manner whatsoever to the frontiers of territories where his life or freedom would be threatened on account of his race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion.”

It does not mean that people who "want a job" or "fear gang violence" are eligible.

Something else to keep in mind when it comes to the credibility—or lack of credibility—of many asylum claims is that many aliens pass through countries with their own asylum laws on their way here—including Mexico.

BTW, the troops are being sent to relieve CBP personnel so they can attend to border enforcement duties, anchovies, as you'd know if you read the posts in this thread. Are the big words confusing you?

What is the difference between someone who is active duty military and someone who is in the Reserve or National Guard?

A person who is active duty is in the military full time. They work for the military full time, may live on a military base, and can be deployed at any time. Persons in the Reserve or National Guard are not full-time active duty military personnel, although they can be deployed at any time should the need arise.

They know as well all they need to do is claim and get released for a court date which I think only 3% show up for.

that would be true but because there are 640 BORDER APPREHENSIONS A DAY. there is a yuge backlog-
so they get released.

I seriously wonder if you Dems get the fact that the border is overwhelmed, and a wall is needed.

I'm sure you don't, or you go into 'da resistance' mindset and block legislation -even though it hurts the country
to have all these undocumented, unskilled -possible disease carriers, possible gangs, etc.

Go back to 2009; dig into US support for the overthrow/intervention that led to the conditions that set up these migrations. The US militarily supports 3/4s of the world’s military dictatorships. All part of the Pan European Capitalist Colonization Project. Some folks got the idea that they would be exempt somehow. Nationalism. That did have its day, hence the current nostalgia pitch.

The Project went global, your borders were dismantled by your militarist economic system.
