It is surprising conservatives are advocating stronger federal power at the expense of states' rights by claiming the federal government can force the states to enforce immigration law.
The federal law requiring a background check to buy firearms originally required local sheriff's departments to perform these checks. Conservatives denounced this as excessive federal power over the states. The Supreme Court ruled this provision unconstitutional and this decision was hailed by conservatives.
The supremacy clause applies to the Constitution and federal laws for which the federal government has the authority. They have no authority to require states to enforce federal legislation (whether background checks or immigration law). Even most sanctuary cities are willing to hold immigration suspects wanted by federal authorities in local jails if they have a warrant to do so.
There are programs providing providing federal-state cooperation in immigration law if local authorities choose to participate.

The guy that killed Kate was deported five times. So, "enforcing the law" in his case--arrest and deportation---obviously did not work permanently. He was convicted for being a felon in possession of a weapon.
How would it have been any different in his case if local authorities had been required to enforce immigration law? And, you obviously have no respect for the Constitution to want to give the federal government the power to force the states to enforce federal law.
And, just as you claim there are no words in the Constitution about "food stamps" or other welfare functions, there are no words in the Constitution about immigration.

The idea of Sanctuary Cities is a misnomer anyway.
What we have are Police Departments and counties that have their job in dealing with real crimes and locking up real criminals.
And then we have ICE and the Border Patrol that deals with those who violate our Federal immigration laws that are only misdemeanors.
No one is protecting immigrants that violate our immigration laws, therefore there are no Sanctuaries!
