[Since President Obama began our engagement in Syria in 2014, we have lost FOUR - that 1-2-3-4) GIs, and have helped the Kurds destroy virtually all of ISIS, except for a small group on the Iraqi border.
trump is trying to divert attention from his imminent incarceration and is wiling to have his buddy Eduogan slaughter our Kurdish allies. Did you notice as soon as Putin mentioned our involvement in Afghanistan his lapdog barked we'd leave there as well?

When the Assad Government (with Russia and Iran as being Signatories) signs an Agreement with Rojava (the Northern Federation) recognizing their autonomous region as being a part of a Federated Syria (something along the lines of 'Iraqi Kurdistan' in their autonomous relationship with Iraq).

"The Democratic Federation of Northern Syria (DFNS), formerly and still commonly known as Rojava, is a de facto autonomous region in northern Syria. It consists of three self-governing regions:[5] Afrin Region, Jazira Region, and Euphrates Region.[6] The region gained its de facto autonomy in 2012[7] as part of the ongoing Rojava conflict and the wider Syrian Civil War. Thanks for that, but the question is whether or not you have an exit strategy.

All of those "terrorist" organizations are state proxy forces. We could stop cutting checks. The regional strategy is to break up the region. It's been going on for at least a century.

Both Iraq and Syria are run by surrogates of Shia Iran. The Shias are united in destroying ISIS and Al Qaeda. ISIS and Al Qaeda are Sunni Arabs, ... fundamentalists like Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States.
Once the Northern Federation is constitutionally secured in it's federated state with Syria as an autonomous region, we won't have to worry about any 'Caliphate'. The Shias will make sure of that.

I'm not surprised though that generals want in. same with the old Bush national security team and the neocons/libs

It's always just easier to stay- which is why we are all over the world. Sometime it for alliances.
But there is no reason to be in Syria now. ISIS is degraded into an insurgency. They are no longer a state.

AfPak is more difficult to call, but the fact we've been there 17 years with nothing to show for nationbuilding says a lot about that mission's futility

Those are all good points.

But the military can drag their feet in removing as many troops as they wish and for as long as they want.

Just because our president has purposely not appointed an Ambassador to Turkey, does not mean that a panel of Congressmen and House Leaders won't go over to Turkey and tell them that the Kurds or off limits and they better keep their hands off of them- if they know what's good for them.

And we'll have to see how NATO will respond to our tucking tail and running away, and leaving the Syrian Christians to die as well!

We certainly will not be leaving it up to Rush Bimba or Laura Insanagraham to decide! LOL!

I think cooler heads will prevail, and Donnie will settle down after Jan. 3rd, and we'll remain in Syria and Afghanistan for the immediate future.!
 
US-led coalition admits 1,100+ civilians killed in Iraq & Syria in latest death toll


The US-led coalition has published the latest casualty figures for its airstrikes in Iraq and Syria since the start of Operation Inherent Resolve in 2014. At least 1,139 civilians have been “unintentionally” killed by coalition strikes, the statement said. The death toll, presented monthly by the US, has been repeatedly challenged by Amnesty International. The group says that the coalition was “deeply in denial” about the “large number of civilians killed and injured by [its] strikes.”
