Thing is, this trend has always been prevalent in Conservatism because Conservatives need to establish they are credible before making arguments that aren't.

Back in 2008, I was working for a newspaper whose editor assigned me to investigate this "Joe the Plumber" guy because my editor thought his story was really fishy and didn't add up. So we began a deep dive into this character and found out that he was just posturing to try and ambush Obama; that he wasn't a plumber, hadn't been a plumber for years, was unemployed, and his name wasn't even Joe!

Because he never paid any sort of price for lying about himself, he empowered Conservatives with the notion they can fake their personal bios so long as it would entrap a liberal. It's basically itjihad...the idea that it's OK to lie to an infidel in order to achieve the prophet's ends. Conservatives have taken that concept and brought it to a whole new level.

That's why we cannot include them in anything moving forward, and why their representation should be diminished or outright eliminated.

Yes, it was remarkable how many "small business owners" showed up on obscure message boards around the time "job creators", the "makers and takers" theme gained wingnut traction in popularity.

I have been around my share of successful and exceptional people, and I do not think someone who calls themselves "boob grabber" on an internet forum is likely to be the type who excelled in college, in business, or is likely to display outstanding personal character and capability.

It's not like I claimed to own a home, then changed it to claim I own two homes, then changed it to claim I own a home in a gated community, then changed that to a "restricted" community, or pretended to have a college degree or wealth.

Not to mention his article is from 2008. A union pipefitter, plumber or steam fitter in Boston makes well over 150K a year. That includes benefits. Same higher wage across the country. LV is just upset he still has to mop floors at Mickey D's.
