Question for JPP lefties

To my mind, allowing 16 year olds to vote is one of the most brazen attempts at vote grabbing I’ve ever seen. All politicians would need to do is show them shiny things and they’d have the 16 year old bloc locked down tight.

Just keep it at eighteen but definitely bundle the automatic registration in with either Social Security cards or state ID.
A person should not have to make a special trip to register to vote. It should be possible online, by mail etc.
Voting should be easy enough that it never jeopardizes your work and never involves hours long waits in line, it should be treated as the essential national treasure that it is, everywhere.

And it should always leave a verified paper trail no matter what machinery is involved.

people register in a state or locale that periodically are purged for address chances -hence the registration process

Understood, I get that.
But still, if you are purged, it shouldn't be a secret. There should be an effort to reach the voter first, and a notice mailed out that they've been purged. They do that for your car registration, yes?

I guess what I am getting at is the fact that I am aware that certain power brokers DON'T WANT to enable voters, quite the opposite.
Here's a particularly poisonous clip that speaks to the very issues I am talking about.

what happens here is you can still vote with a provisional ballot. It's looked upon as up to your responsibility to update your records -same as the DMV..

I do not spend time watching Youtubes in place of responses -but thanks -it's too often a waste of my time

Sixteen seems too young to vote because it is too young to vote.

But it would be a great way to get ‘living wage’ legislation to pass.

Like most righties, you're fearful of adding extra ppl to the voting rolls because they might vote for things you don't like. Like gun control (popular when you're still in h.s. and worried about being gunned down in English class). Higher minimum wage. Better plans to fund higher education.

Here's an idea: Allow early registration and voting for kids who will be at least 16 by Election Day, if they successfully pass a civics exam demonstrating that they understand how our state and national governments work. If you decline to take the exam, then you have to wait till you're 18 to vote.

I’m not sure why that shouldn’t be a requirement for everyone. Couple it with producing an ID before you vote and I’m in.

And your theory is backwards: Democrats know the only way they can get some of their nonsense passed into law is with more voters. In this instance, voters who are too young and/or naive to know any better.

Excellent. You've admitted that RWers wish to suppress voting to thwart the (D)s and further their own agenda.

I don't know about now since my g-kids moved out of the state while still in h.s., but Missouri used to require a one-year civics course as a graduation requirement. You learned state and national constitutions, how both governments work, how the stock market works, how to balance a personal household budget and checkbook, how to file out a long form 1040. Great practical information for life as a citizen.

much like giving illegals the vote. Why Dems don't care about open borders.

Dems are craven and would have kids that believe in Santa vote if they thought they could tap into that free stuff demographic

I didn't say it wasn't my responsibility, I said that voters should be notified if they've been purged.
You don't watch YouTube clips "IN PLACE OF" responses? I responded.
The clip wasn't a substitute for a response, it was a piece of history.

Most sixteen-year-olds seem to know a lot more about the world that the trumpers, or the brexiteers over here. I think we might equally argue that over-fifties were too old to vote?
