"Americans say ‘Arabic numerals’ should not be taught in school, finds survey"

True, the survey was testing prejudice, however, it still says a lot, you would think a respondent might ask what exactly do you mean by Arabic numbers?

There is a lot of anti-Arab prejudice. Christian Zionists fcktards are the kings of anti-Arab prejudice and hate. But, this survey doesn't really test for prejudice. You could use any word to label any other real or fictitious numbers and the public would rightly say "no" to adding it to public schools. All this survey did was show that most people don't know our numbers are called Arabic.

I see incurable and incredible ignorance in this forum in every thread I read.

I would appear no one has bragging rights, D or R.:rofl2:

I think back in the day we learned this in first or second grade, it is unbelievable adults, teens etc would not know this......

I guess even more surprising, perhaps, if they didnn't understand the question/know what it meant, why in the hell didn't they ask??

I am not sure if polls, surveys, et al. allow one to ask clarifying or follow up questions. Yes, No, or Maybe seems to be what the goal is.

I myself cannot blame average Americans for not knowing or remembering the historic context of Hindu-Arabic numerals. There are a lot of things worth remembering in life, and I do not think that one is near the top of the list. Now, it would be unforgiveable if someone with an advanced math or science degree was not aware of this!

We should teach Indian numerals, since that is where they and the number placement system actually originated.

Fuck Islam.

Maybe I am an oddball for remembering :dunno:

Ha, well you are an oddball, but for reasons other than that!

I think people remember what is important to them, or what they find interesting. I suspect you have an innate curiosity about human history and intellectual history.

I can remember for years on end details of the Greco-Persian Wars of the 5th century BC. But most of the time, I cannot remember what grade of oil my car needs.

"Fifty-six per cent of people say the numerals should not part of the curriculum for US pupils"

"A survey by Civic Science, an American market research company, asked 3,624 respondents: “Should schools in America teach Arabic numerals as part of their curriculum?

"Some 2,020 people answered “no”. Twenty-nine per cent of respondents said the numerals should be taught in US schools, and 15 per cent had no opinion"

"Seventy-two per cent of Republican-supporting respondents said Arabic numerals should not be on the curriculum"

Standard LEFTST BULLSHIT "POLL QUESTION".

They are NOT "ARABIC NUMERALS"; they are "HINDU-ARABIC NUMERALS" with BY FAR, the most credit to the Hindus.

I suck at roman numerals

You know I still find it amazing they could build those roads, tunnels, bridges & buildings etc using them...

Many of those are still standing & here they can't build a freakin sidewalk that won't crack in a couple years....

Probably a lot of the same people who couldn't find Benghazi on a map

"Americans angry about Benghazi can't find it on a map"

"Of the 41 percent of Republicans who consider Benghazi to be the worst political scandal in American history, 39 percent are unaware that Benghazi is located in Libya. 10 percent said it's in Egypt, 9 percent in Iran, 6 percent in Cuba, 5 percent in Syria, 4 percent in Iraq, and 1 percent each in North Korea and Liberia, with 4 percent unwilling to venture a guess."

not surprising. most Americans don't even know Obama/Hillary/NATO created a failed terrorist state of Libya as well.

Only the Russians and Germans have clean hands

"seventy-two per cent of Republican-supporting respondents said Arabic numerals should not be on the curriculum"

Next

doesn't change the fact that demmycraps have always been stupid......I remember one who thought there were 57 states and you elected him president because he was the smartest one you could find......

They can but not for the price people are willing to pay.
But the Romans were awesome especially at roads. VERY labor intensive but you rightly note the results.

Correct, buildings are not engineered to last > 50 yrs. They say it has to do with staying current with engineering standards which is not false (try retrofitting the HVAC in a 190 yr old bldg) but as with everything else, it insures repeat customers.
It helps to have slave labor, holds down the cost. Thats why slavery was so popular in olden days.
