500,000 kids could lose lunch due to trump

What's the difference between the parents who provide their kids with packed lunches and those who don't?

I'll tell you:
The parents who provide their kids with packed lunches are good, responsible, loving parents.
The parents who don't...aren't.

Perhaps. There could be other factors such as work schedules or even sheer lack of income. Perhaps single parent situation.

Income isn’t a problem with families that have money. Probably not work schedule, either.

Point was, packed lunches are rare these days.

I've been a substitute teacher for three years since retiring and I see kids of all colors and ethnicities in one of the most diverse counties in America. I see plenty of kids with packed lunches. In fact, more kids come to school with packed lunches than money to buy lunches. It has little to do with income, race, ethnicity.
It has to do with responsible parents who provide for their kids. And it doesn't take much money to buy and fix a packed lunch. Maybe $2-3? If a parent can't afford that, maybe they should pass on those daily six-packs and cigarettes.

I don’t disagree. My other observation? Many packed lunches aren’t nearly as nutritious as the school ones. Packed with shit the kid likes rather than for its nutritional value.

Why does that matter?

It doesn't if you just oppose all such programs. But your comments said we shouldn't have to pay for parents who weren't taking care of their own kids. There is an implication that if the parents could not take care of a kid through no fault of their own (disabled vet, person who had developed some disability after the kids were born, etc.) then you were willing to support such programs.

If the implication was not intended and you oppose those programs for anyone you have clarified your position. I was just trying making sure I understood clearly.

The no fault of their own argument is bullshit. Those that make that claim don't have a problem doing anything else they want. Why, when it comes to feeding their kids, is that the excuse?

Your sole focus is on the parents, nitwits such as yourself...

What about the kids??

Focus on them for a minute, assuming you have the capacity..:palm:

That's because the sole cause is the parents refusing to feed their kids.

The kids aren't the reason they're not being fed.

Start addressing the parents that aren't feeding their kids instead of automatically expecting the rest of us to do the job of the irresponsible parents. If you have the capacity.

Look fool, is there some reason you can't do both?? Is this to complicated for you or you just so full of venom & hate you can't see much further than your full stomach??

Feed the kids while dealing w/ the parents, but they have to eat, they can't sit around waiting for you, O' wise one, to pass judgement on their parents..

You're confusing can't and shouldn't. It has nothing to do with hate nor is it complicated. Saying that it is one, the other or both is an emotional argument.

What I haven't seen is bleeding hearts like you that chastise me for wanting to hold these parents accountable do a damn do a damn thing on a voluntary basis you would have the government mandate I do.

I've provided a solution that meets what both of us say we want. The problem you have with it is it would involve you actually doing something other than whining and crying about someone else not doing it your way. It's one thing to say someone else should help pay the price and you reaching into your pocket and paying it.

Would Jesus take the stand you are taking??

Yes or no & I won't ask another.............

Yes.

Would Jesus support you claiming credit because you believe someone else should be forced to financially support what you believe and refuse to do yourself?

Here's another good one.

Those who have been getting their nails and hair done all summer, been on 5 vacations, talking on the latest iPhone, yet searching for programs for "free school supplies", "daycare", "shoes" and the list goes on.

You honestly cannot make this shit up. As sorry as the day is long.

They say they can't afford to feed THEIR kids but they can afford all those other "needs".

Again, why is it the government's job to provide NUTRITIONAL lunches for the kids? Shouldn't the parents be the ones providing NUTRITIONAL lunches for their kids? If they feed them 'shit' for lunch, then what are they feeding them for breakfast and dinner? You want the government to take care of those meals, too. And if they don't like the NUTRITIONAL school-provide lunches, you really think they're going to eat it? Hell no. Most of it is going to be un-eaten and thrown away. I have many students that are eligible for FARM subsidies which provides breakfast for low-income kids. Much of it goes uneaten and thrown in the trash. What a waste.

You are a teacher?? :)

I have heard that often about most of the food being wasted~ you can bring a kid to food but you can't make him eat..:dunno:

If you try to end the program you will most assuredly hear it from the bleeding hearts "the pO' children", as well as the farmers supplying it & the capitalist selling it..

Only thing I heard, that kinda made sense was if they eat they are more attentive in class etc which is part of ending the prison pipeline from school to prison.....

I have never seen anything to support that though...

Hungry kids are grumpy, they don't get the most out of the school day, and they certainly don't have energy to participate in after school activities or sports.
You've seen teenagers eat I'm, sure...Schools need to rethink/redo their breakfast/lunch programs (elementary and middle schools, too;( )
