Tracking TS Dorian

I'm 20-30 miles inland. As it moves over land, it weakens.

As I recall, it's more like about half that.

But even if I'm wrong, that's still not enough overland distance to significantly weaken a strong hurricane.

You'd probably need a good 60 or 70 miles between you and the landfall point to reduce it down to a cat 1.

I hope you're taking this seriously.

Latest NOAA track shows shift to the W. Potential area looks correct. My system now shows Dorian (tropical storm strength)
passing just west of Jacksonville, FL on Tues, 9/3 at 2am heading N.

It's never the storm that frightens me away..........it's that I know it's mid summer and
there will be no a.c. for a few weeks!!!!!! UGH!

That's when you begin to consider a Generator! Hey, your Refrigerator works. Lights.
It was 3 days before I found out what was going on in New Orleans. I went on a 'Food Run' to Lafayette (where my #4 Son lives) and was able to watch Television for the first time.

OK, check out this LIVE feed from the beaches of St. Croix which is just 100 miles to the east of PR.
GENTLE BREEZES of 30 mph! It's barely that in PR!
Be wary of these weather people on TV and their "dramatic" performances!

And, watch this report from PR on NBC............the gal there with the beach behind her even
admits that things are pretty mild there.

I live here and have for 67 years. We don't need fearmongering...just discussion, preparedness, a sense of humor,
common sense and enjoying a common bond with others who may live in a potentially affected area.

A) I wasn't fear mongering and B) I don't need a lecture from you regarding a post that wasn't even directed at you.

But if you and LIG want to take this potentially catastrophic storm lightly, be my guests.

Nothing so far shows that it's moving over any portion of FL,GA, SC or NC.

Your own post shows a tracking map forecasting it slamming straight into the east coast of Florida, somewhere between the southern tip and Savannah, Ga.

What... have got alzheimer's or something?

Stretch has studied meteorology.

I'd be worried if I lived on the beach and it was a direct hit by a 4 or 5 but I'm not going to panic over this yet. Done this drill too many times.

It's my thread, I'll post where I choose thank-you.
So, far I am 1 for 1.
Post #20 is in the books. Minor occurrence in PR backed up with LIVE feed from the beach there in other more recent posts...go look. :awesome:

Here's a lesson.....free.
Look at the NOAA bulletin. See the lower left corner? "POTENTIAL" TRACK AREA? See how broad the area is?
You formulate your prediction and toss fear bombs out there like the Weather Channel
and I'll go with an educated forecast from my system which of course could be right or wrong, but I'll own it either way.

Is that what she told you?

Either way, I never suggested you should "panic".

All I was saying is that your attitude over a few previous posts seemed rather blasé and unconcerned, so I merely suggested that you might do well to take it a bit more seriously.

Nothing more.

Certainly not "fear mongering" like little miss self-righteous, know-it-all exaggerated.

Congratulations. You must be the coolest child in your third grade special ed class.

No shit, little miss know-it-all. I've lived here since 1965. I know how the forecasts work.

If you read some of LIG's earlier posts, she was just laughing and kind of shrugging the whole thing off. Possibly as some kind of perceived jab at climate change or lib'ruls or something, who knows? At any rate, all I did was try to express some friendly concern for someone I'm acquainted with and offer some sound, common sense advice.

I was not "fear mongering" and you sticking your porcine nose into it trying to stir up shit, was unnecessary.

I'm jaded from all the drama queen news anchors who hype this stuff to no end. I'm watching the updates to see if the cone narrows any. The grocery stores and Home Depots are making out like bandits from all this fear mongering in the press.

See? This is the difference between emotionalism which is rampant these days and just looking at data and making decisions.
I've had wonderful talks with both Jack and LIG over the past 2 years when hurricanes came up for discussion. They are not stupid.
They both know what it's like like to go through them and the prep beforehand. They know how to read a bulletin and a map.
I know that hurricanes at best can be a hemorrhoid and at worst a deadly disaster. One prepares for the worst and hopes for the best.
I've studied meteorology and geology in college. I still love tracking storms not only for preparedness, but also as an interest.

Of course a storm COULD take many directions. This one MIGHT go north and MIGHT turn west into the gulf. We'll know
more by Sunday according to high pressure systems and currents vs the strength of the storm to change course or not.
All we know right now is that conditions are PRESENTLY favorable to make its way to a point offshore perpendicular to Titusville.

True. Even though PR was aware that Dorian was only a TS on approach, film crews were out there showing the
panicked shopping spree. On those LIVE feeds I posted, they barely got a thunderstorm today.

Thanks for your insight. You have been tracking the storms on this board for a few years now.

The news anchors here are almost gleeful over the prospect it could come to Jacksonville. Even the Mayor spoke today.

It's so ridiculous and commercialized.
