Rep. Alexandria Occasion Cortez has 20zK in student loan debt

Wrong.
I don't know why dims constantly harp on da rich paying less taxes when it's so easy to see the truth.
The tax cuts helped mostly middle income earners.

exactly.. and in my case being finger-nail- hanging-on-to- lower middle class;
( I get no subsidies/ food stamps etc from da gub'mint) the doubling of the standard deduction
was a YUGE break for me.
I don't need to itemize anymore - much easier to deal with- and I pay less!

So instead of doing what she was being paid to do by the American taxpayer (paying attention at a Congressional hearing and looking out for her constituents) she was doing personnel finance and business. Probably the reason she has a degree she knows nothing about.

Pretty funny, if I remember correctly during nearly all the most recent televised hearings a good number of the members weren't even present during segments of the hearings, and now you say AOC isn't doing her job cause she is paying a bill while attending the meeting?

Beautiful, didn't I mention the right's obsession with her?

I do not apologize if the truth hurts you. Just another useless politician in DC.

AOC is smart. she knows how to play to the cameras.. i venture to say that clip was on every news program.
She's an idiot other wise ( occasional - cortex) , but she is media smart

The freebie crowd will vote for her party. I'm hoping the rest of the USA votes for economic empowerment

Must be you don't have any exemptions or interest on a mortgage nor pay State tax, and keep in mind, that tax reduction you think is grand goes away in the future

If you want to go there, I experienced similar, and have never paid anything over anything in the eighteen, nineteen percent range in actual tax, before of after Trump's stimulus to the rich

And that don't make any sense, "I no longer care because nobody else does including repubs," but I guarantee you did care all during the Obama years and now you don't cause your own party who swore by the issue isn't doing anything about it?
I also cared when Bush II was president. One reason why I deregistered as a repub. They spend money like drunken sailors on a Saturday night. If you can't beat,'em, join 'em. I'll gladly take my extra money.
Makes no sense, it would be like a Democrat saying health care doesn't matter cause Democrats no longer have it as one of their primary issues
But you see a "severe recession" as a solution,[/QUOTE] Nope. A recession would likely be a symptom of the solution, not the solution. The solution is to pay down the debt and once accomplished all gubmint income would go to infrastructure, not interest on debt. amazing how you don't see that as being good.
which as I commented, would be like interpreting the Great Depression as benefiting Americans
I don't think you understand what I'm saying. At all.

If you are a member of the law-making body and advocate for laws that would force taxpayers to pay off your student loan, this is Smithsonian conflict of interest.

I agree- and I'll also add that most Democrats feel the same way!

No one will ever be elected president that is promoting that idea!

“Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made a student loan payment on Tuesday — and also revealed how much she still owes — while attending a congressional hearing on college debt.

“I literally made a student loan payment while I was sitting here at this chair, and I looked at my balance, and it was $20,237.16,” said the New York lawmaker. “I just made a payment that took me down to $19,000 so I feel really accomplished right now.”

Ocasio-Cortez, a Boston University graduate, was attending a House Financial Services Committee hearing on the estimated $1.5 trillion in student debt in the country. Consumer advocates, experts and public figures testified on different ways to bring the number down.

Ocasio-Cortez is one of nearly 70 members of Congress who are still paying off student loans for themselves or a dependent — with an average debt burden of $37,000. Eight lawmakers are said to have more than $100,000 in debt.

“I’m hearing people on this committee say it’s not our job,” Ocasio-Cortez said, referring to testimony from Republicans during the hearing. “This is our job.”

This is a clear conflict of interest by her and the other Democrats who have unpaid student loans.

They want taxpayers to pay their loans. Conflict of interest.

This supposedly happened yesterday right? I just found this: https://www.financialsamurai.com/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-net-worth-is-higher-than-you-think/

"She made about $26,600 in 2018. On July 10, 2019 during a House Committee on Financial Services on Capital Hill, she revealed in a statement that she still has $19,000 in student loan debt.

“I literally made a student loan payment while I was sitting here… and I looked at my balance and it [was] $20,237.16,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) stated towards the end of the hearing. “I just made a payment and it’s now down to $19,000.”

Almost word for word. What gives?

There was nothing about a level playing field on the Trump tax cuts. So don’t piss on our legs and tell us it’s raining

Everybody with the same income got the same tax cuts. You can't cut taxes for the bottom 40% since they don't pay any. We've already virtually eliminated income taxes for the lower income groups, so any tax cuts have to be for those who actually pay taxes.

But that has nothing to do with a conflict of interest for any member of Congress with a student loan to vote to forgive that loan. You are arguing with the merits of the tax cut, not the conflict of interest involving a tax cut that applies to everyone versus voting to forgive a loan you have already agreed to pay.

Recuse!

No it didn't.

People in the bottom bracket saw their rates GO UP.

The cuts for the wealthy were permanent, but the cuts for everyone else were temporary.

The corporate tax cut was not equal to the cuts for everyone else; it was far greater.

You're lazy.

You have tried to divert the topic from whether it is a conflict of interest to vote to forgive a loan you have promised to repay to the merits of the tax cuts. That is a separate issue.

When you are losing one argument it is a cheap trick to try to divert the debate to another unrelated issue.
