Then he said: "How long we're on it is a different matter."
That means he could simply go directly to an immediate vote, hold no hearings, let nobody speak, and be done with it.
There is no rule which prevents him from doing that.
I would not put it past him to handle it like that.

The evidence contained in the articles of impeachment needs to be irrefutable.
