Some people are just very sad, pathetic creatures in search of validation. If he'd been a real sailor, a real US Navy sailor with an Honorable Discharge, he wouldn't need such validation since he'd have earned it. As a wannebe sailor playing a U-boat commander on his iPad, he'd certainly strive for validation.
