Tense mood grips Tulsa as Trump fans and protesters gather ahead of campaign rally

it's a reactionary mindset. It's understandable considering the violent injustices on the streets by the mob.
You have to rise above that id feeling and kick in your superego (Freudian references)

Why is his reaction understandable, but the reaction of those who have been treated unequally for decades not?

That's a sentiment you share w/ quite a few minorities, Stone.

Kinda easy to see how they might feel when you think about it from that perspective, eh? You've only had to watch people on TV. Imagine if you got pulled over for your color, or frisked for going to the store, or had your face pushed into the concrete a few times.
that's not a reason to resist arrest or go violent.
The Atlanta cops are being handled by the justice system,so are the Floyd cops.
I have been beaten and abused by a cop. I went to court and filed grievances /that's how you fight back

You think the justice system has been fair about hearing those complaints from the minority community over the years?

the reaction to call for violence is understandable -it's the basic Id process.
But you take that and USE YOUR MIND INSTEAD to rise above it and seek justice, not partake in riots

I would be willing to bet that I have had to put up with more racism leveled against me than probably anyone on this forum. Not just racism either,....pure blind hatred based upon nothing but the color of my skin. Believe you me,... in my early years I had to endure things that most could not. It was dog eat dog, fight or fight harder because there was no flight. NOBODY has earned the right to preach to me about ANYTHING race related. Not ever......

I am 56 years old and to this very day there are little blue dots on various parts of my body. They are from the lead of pencils that were stabbed into me and broken off. You most probably have no idea what THAT kind of racism is all about.....

for the most part.
every rule has an exception -but this hyperbole of "systemic racism" that somehow excuses it is a false premise

How do you know that?

I don't know that, one way or the other. It's not my experience. But I also don't think millions of people are making it up.

When stop & frisk was still a thing, I can't help but think about the dude I saw on TV - just a law-abiding, working guy. He said he was stopped & frisked over 100 times; he broke down sobbing talking about it.

I don't think most people can really imagine what that must be like. Just going out to buy some milk, and getting harassed. Seeing police more as an occupying force than a group that's there to protect & serve your community.

And yeah, I know - stop & frisk was under a Dem. But this is a non-partisan thing. Again - I'm inclined to give the benefit of doubt to communities who deal w/ this.

What is your experience that you conclude it doesn't exist?

stop and frisk really did take a lot of guns off the streets, but peoples ( and it wasn't just blacks so stop making it a racial issue and not a Constitutional issue) rights were infringed..
Look at NYCity now with busting rises in crime rates -it's a failure to protect because cops are undercut by Deblasio. Crime rates are expoding over last years.

Millions of people are repeating the same thing over and over; it's a meme.
To be clear on that -it does exist, but if people would cooperate with a pull over instead of resist or scream obsentites or abuse the cops they wouldn't get jacked up.

again some will -like the poor soul Mr. Floyd RIP who did cooperate, but that balck guy in Atlanta would still be here if he hadn't violently resisted arrest, and tried to TASE the cop

A pretty reasonable response. I don't agree w/ everything there, but you're looking at both sides - which I think is something we all need to at least try to do.

Hello Walt,

Post after post from the Alt Right saying how they want to kill millions of Americans. We never see that from moderates or liberals. Just saying.

It is good to bear in mind that not everyone on the entire right wants that. Not even everyone in the Alt Right wants that. Also, the internet gives equal access to all voices, including the most extreme. Actually, extremists are more motivated to use electronic media because they really didn't have much of a voice before the PC.

Hello Walt,

So trump is campaigning in a state he is almost certain to win? Why? Wouldn't he want to campaign someplace that getting more votes would help him?

If he wins Oklahoma by 1% or 50% it gives him the same number of Electors. But if he loses Pennsylvania even by one vote, it will be a disaster for him.

He's not doing it for them. He's doing it for himself. He needs the attention or he is going to go crazy. He has been without mass adoration for 100 days.

Also, it's a central location. People have driven long distance to be there. That's why the event has the potential to be a COVID super-spreader. Mass transmission and then they travel back home taking along a special gift. I've heard interviews where a 40ish guy says he'd rather die from COVID than to wear a mask. I hope he doesn't end up regretting that attitude but it's entirely possible. 20% of the people of all ages who get the disease will get badly sick. Some will die. Young people have died of COVID. This is nothing to blow off. Very foolish to take that attitude.
