How do you, or anyone, know that those ratings are a positive for Biden? It is very possible more people tuned in to watch Biden who they haven't seen much of in this campaign and wanted to hear him, then came away from that thinking I'm not voting for that idiot!

Biden is an idiot. He can't even make complete sentences, but he's "the guy." Your appeal to popularity means nothing by comparison. Just because you say so, or think so, doesn't make it so. In Biden's case, he's a walking gaffe machine. The guy forgets where he is, what office he's running for, tells crazy--literally crazy--stories about his life that fit the question or narrative but have no basis in reality. Biden gets angry and insults voters when he's challenged. He has no grasp of facts or information. Add that his 47 years in Washington haven't exactly been a cornucopia of legislative and political success in terms of accomplishment beyond getting elected, and it's pretty damn clear he's a mediocre intellect and not particularly bright. I'd say at this point he is a useful idiot for the Democrats.
