I was very lucky to have had Dr. Lomas for my High School History teacher. He acquired his Doctor's degree the year I was in his class.

Every day we had a lecture, and a pop quiz at the end. ABSOLUTELY NO HOMEWORK. His class was everybody's favorite class, and he was by far everyone's favorite teacher.

But, he made those lectures so great by using some light humor and really making the lecture so interesting even the retards stayed awake and made straight A's in his class. Dr. Lomas went on to become a professor at SMU in their history department the year after I graduated High School.

The key to good education will always be GOOD TEACHERS!

Even when that money is pooled and distributed equally like in Arizona? The wealthier districts do better because their students generally have homes that are stable and parents that are smart, hard working, and involved. Money won't fix problems like broken homes, single-parent families, stupid or lazy parents.

Won't make any significant difference. More money isn't the problem. Crappy teachers and uninvolved and unmotivated students are.

What's he going to do about BIA schools like the ones on the White Mountain Apache res where the tribe gives very member 16 years old and older a whopping huge five-figure check from casino earnings every six months? Virtually all the 16 + year olds drop out of school and go buy "toys" like a new car or truck, along with drugs and whatever, with their free money and knowing they'll get another big check in six months never bother with school again. Biden can't tell the tribe they can't do that.
Throwing money at a problem that isn't a money problem won't fix a damn thing.

Unfortunately, most teachers aren't all that good. Most are rather mediocre. Have you looked through any K-12 textbooks (I use the term loosely) recently? They are utter crap. They're millimeters deep on most subjects. Often just a paragraph or two. There are lots of pictures and they are very colorful. They remind me of high quality comic books combined with what I call "coffee table" books. You know the kind. You have this large book full of pictures of art or nature or something and put it on your coffee table to impress your friends that you take an interest in such things...

Worse, they often have wrong information in them. I'm not talking questionable, but demonstrably wrong information in them. In one of the ones the grandkids got for "science" written by 2 PhD women with education degrees, (I looked) they stated that a "generator" (for electricity) was "two magnets connected by a length of wire." That is utter crap and totally wrong. It doesn't describe a generator at all.
A quick description would be A series of coils of wire arranged around a rotating magnetic field such that the magnetic field interacts with the coils and produces electricity. That would be reasonable one sentence, quick description of a generator. These PhD's were so messed up on science it wasn't funny.

I haven't been a member of the PTA since My daughter graduated High school 1996. So I haven't kept up with Public Schools. However 4 of my grandchildren have already graduated, and several of my grand nieces and nephews have also, and I go to all their graduations.

I am actually impressed with the schools and their student bodies, and their curriculums. I can honestly say these school are huge and they are graduating so many young adults now. Those graduations take hours for all the students to get their diplomas.

I am very impressed that all of my grand children that graduated HIgh School went straight into college and are all working today, some out on their very own already. None have married and still focused on their education and careers!

I am sorry, but all I have are success stories right now. And I am a very proud grand pappy!

I won't disagree with any of that.

But when you have good parents that raise their children right, and participate in their education, and also have good teachers teaching their children at school- YOU GOT IT ALL!

It really depends where.

Texas has some of the very best school systems however, we still have huge dropout rates in the poor areas.

I am going to chalk this up to about 40 years of Republican stranglehold on this state though- NOT PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
