Re: gun law effectiveness...the vast majority of gun laws are aimed at the END USER. They are the people who break laws and cannot be dealt with by law enforcement until AFTER they commit a crime.
By then it's too late for the victim.
Common sense gun laws that would actually reduce violence would be aimed at THE MANUFACTURERS AND DEALERS of guns.
Restrict the number of guns that can be manufactured and sold. Require some kind of tracing device be built into each gun. Require some type of locking device that would disable the gun for anyone but the registered owner.
If it increases the price of guns, tough shit.

They still had to murder someone before they were even arrested. Most of the time that murder happened with the use of a gun.
If guns weren't so readily available, that first one (ore more) murder would not have happened.
You want guns to flourish in society which still allows initial, first time gun murders to occur.
I'm all for throwing murderers in prison for life, but they still have to have committed at least one murder before they can be given that sentence.
You still have not addressed how you will give those victims their lives back after the murderer is doing life with no parole and will never murder more victims.
You refuse to address it point because you know you can't.
There is no law that will prevent some people from killing others. Many if not most people who commit murder do so in the heat of the moment and because they have easy access to a gun. All that bullshit about how they'd just use a knife or a club is nonsense because most people who kill someone else do not want to get close enough to their victims to get into a physical confrontation which is what the use of other kinds of weapons raises the possibility of.
Registered gun owners sometimes kill people. We'll never stop that. But the real death toll is created by criminals and thugs.

So you actually are saying that everyone convicted of a crime should be locked up for the maximum sentence allowable?
And when they eventually serve their entire sentence then get out even more hardened, pissed off and anti-social then kill someone, what do you do about that?
You can't just lock everyone away forever.
If you want to make a big dent in gun crime, you have to do something about guns.
Either make them difficult to get or redesign them so if they're stolen or purchased on the street unregistered, they cannot be fired by anyone other than a registered purchaser.

Progressives usually only care about the well-being of the perpetrators, and give zero fucks about the victims. The fun thing about urban crime is that you basically care about neither, because of reasons.
You just want to implement gun laws. The reasons wouldn't matter at all, but, you think that running cities into the ground is the best vehicle for accomplishing anti gun laws. They certainly do fuck all for reducing urban murders and other violent crimes.
