Almost a certainty that we will pay too much for too little....the new American normal.
"The government is a major purchaser of vehicles. However, replacing such a fleet with American-produced EVs will be costly and take time. There are currently only a handful of all-electric vehicles being assembled in the U.S. Tesla, General Motors and Nissan Motor produce EVs domestically, while Ford Motor and others have announced plans to do so."

https://electrek.co/2021/01/25/president-biden-will-make-entire-645k-vehicle-federal-fleet-electric/The US Post Office vehicles in particular are ripe for replacement, with the Grumman LLV, used by the Post Office since the late 1980s, showing its age. These vehicles do short, consistent daily routes with a lot of starting and stopping, which is an ideal application for electric vehicles. The US government has been running a bidding process for several years to replace the LLV, though has pushed back the decision several times – likely in an attempt to get more serious alternative-fuel bids.
Workhorse, a company that plans to offer electric delivery vans, had been in the bidding for the contract, but the bidding process stalled. Workhorse stock (WKHS) has gone up by about 10% since Biden’s announcement today.

This sounds like a smart move.
I was reading about a year ago that a major problem with the search of post office trucks is the demand that they keep the postal employee comfortable, even though a large window is nearly always open. Current trucks dont do that, and it is impossible for electrics to do it. Apparently until the Post Office changes the bid requirement there will be no electric trucks.
This information is old, I have not investigated today.
