No, I started elementary school late 60s and early 70s. I never was beaten, and to the best of my recollection it seems like paddling and spanking slowly was being phased out by early 70s. At least where I went to school.

When I was in school they used to bit me with sticks weekly, as a matter of course, but it had nothing to do with religion - just natural authoritarian pleasure!

I have no problem with preventing nutjobs from harming themselves or others. The point being that at least two far Lefties have advocated that religion is child abuse. What is the solution for child abusers? Arrest and take away their kids.
If a person honestly believes religion is child abuse, and not just being a fucking liar, then it's their civic duty to stop all religion.

As a juvenile, I lived in Washington DC and the Maryland suburbs. I credit the example my parents set for the fact I never had significant behavioral or disciplinary problems. I never saw my parents yell, fight, complain, they virtually never cursed or lacked self-discipline.I was beat until I was too big to beat.
