Senate votes to hear witnesses

Yeah, I'm not sure what Stretch is celebrating. This is not going to go well for the Republicans. van der Veen couldn't even lawyer/poker face his reaction on the Senate floor. He is in so far over his head, I wouldn't be surprised if he drowned overnight.

What does he think he's going to get out of Pelosi and Harris? I feel like he was just saying names as they popped into his head.

Irrelevant now, but you are correct, I think he has said at least four times now he has had only a week to prepare as if that makes his ranting anymore compelling

They think calling Pelosi is a good idea for the defense  what would she have to offer. She would make the defense look foolish. The same for the Mayor of DC. The FBI would be a mistake as well because they would show the planning of the riot was based on Trump’s wishes as several of those arrested have confirmed.

I'm trying to figure out the same thing. What would Pelosi and Harris have for the defense? I think van der Veen is just the worst bluffer in history.

In a fast-moving vote, GOP Senators Murkowski, Romney, Collins, Sasse and Graham voted with a bloc of Democratic Party senators to enable House Impeachment Managers to call witnesses at the second Senate Impeachment trial of former President Donald John Trump

On Saturday, House impeachment manager Jamie Raskin announced on the Senate floor that he will move to subpoena Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA) as a witness in the trial of former President Donald Trump.

Raskin said that he specifically wants notes from Herrera Beutler regarding her conversations with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Trump's resistance to calling the national guard to put down the Capitol insurrection, a set of facts which goes to the president's disinterest in stopping the riot from taking place.

The problem with this is the Trump Team would call McCarthy to the stand to lie and deny the testimony of Beutler, and we already know we can't trust McCarthy to ever tell the truth about anything. It just turns this episode into a He said/She said argument.

McCarthy lied his way all the way through the Benghazi hearings- and no one ever persecuted him for lying to Congress!

See how when Congress don't act to persecute their own, how these Republican assholes just keep coming back committing the same crimes?

That is why Congress must now convict Donald Trump, before he, or one of his cronies, can come back and commit all the same impeachable crimes again!

Remember: DOnald Trump is stupid enough to be caught out in the open with most of his crimes we know about! Can you only imaging how much criminal activity someone as evil- but smarter than Donald Trump, could do if ever elected as president?

I'm not sure he's fully aware that he is presenting to the United State Senate on globally broadcast television. Can you imagine someone walking into a meeting to pitch you something and they said four times, "The boss just gave me this assignment last week, so give me a break, ok?" I would throw them out of the room.

I would as well, are you up to task? If not, why did you take the assignment and why should I trust you with any further assignments?

Hello archives,

It’s all a bluff for Fox, they’ll settle, agree, on three or four, and try to show it was the preparation for the day which was the cause for the violence that day, not Trump, a deflection, but what else do they have, what witness can they call that will validate it wasn’t Trump’s doing

Nothing limits Trump's contribution to the riot to simply what he said in the morning speech. He told the crowd lies for years. Their defense is that they were listening to him; that's the reason they were their to stop the 'stolen election' from being certified.

Look, we all know on January 6 Trump was glued to the TV and reveling in the shit smearing, vandalism, and intimidation his rabid animals were engaged in. It took him hours to even issue a tepid statement, and that was only after aides begged him

Exactly. All of this stuff is so mindless. The trial. The lawyers. The "arguments". Everyone knows Trump caused the riot, he did it on purpose, he enjoyed it, and he's not remorseful for it.

They’d be foolish to call any of them. All Nancy has to say is she left the decisions on manning the Capitol to the Capitol police whom she totally trusted and just keep repeating that claim.

Whether there was adequate security of the Capitol or not is irrelevant.

well gee; lets just Hang 'Em High Sheriff Diesel..save all that due process -why bother?

welcome back my friends to the show that never ends. the Pig Circus lives on

Which means no COVID bill, and no screwed up Progressive legislation

The COVID bill is moving ahead just fine. Apparently you haven't been paying any attention to the House this week. Meanwhile, Biden did in three weeks what Trump was incapable of accomplishing for a year: He figured out how to vaccinate the American public. The Senate trial is just one of many things happening in DC, but it makes sense that you can't pay attention to more than one thing at once.

This from the poster who told us Trump would win on a landslide and Trump would remain President regardless, appears that “something” ain’t been right with him yet

Stone filled an entire thread yesterday saying that Republicans lost the 2020 election on purpose. They're going to lose the 2022 elections on purpose too. That way, in 2024, they can blame whatever ails the country and the world at that point on united government under the Democrats.

I don't know who he's trying to convince (except himself), but reading his posts reminds me of watching a toddler try to learn how to hold a fork.

Does ANYONE here honestly believe that Florida sat down and read all the senate Rules vast as they may be? Yeah,... didnt think so. Me neither.

What's crazy to me: This is the only forum I have ever participated in where nearly everyone from every side of every issue just lobs assertions into the abyss. Almost no one ever provides sourcing. That's not debating. That's just typing words for no real purpose except cheap entertainment.

Fraud has already been shown false in 60 court cases and many recounts. It has nothing to do with this case at all.

It has to do with Trump’s defense. This is where you say the defendant has no right to call witnesses to establish his innocence.

Which is where I call this a political show trial and a kangaroo court.
