Looks Like Things Are Getting Worse In Kabul

7 Killed at Gates of Kabul Airport; Taliban Blame US for Chaos

“There is peace and calm all over the country,” Amir Khan Mutaqi, a top Taliban leader asserted, saying “there is chaos only at Kabul airport.”

“America, with all its power and capabilities, and with their president paying direct attention to the evacuation process, they have failed to bring order to the airport,” Mutaqi said in an audio statement shared with media.

Idiots like this one wonder why no one takes them seriously and points and laughs. :palm:

Wait until the shooting starts. Do you trust the Taliban now that they have full control of Afghanistan?

Never have, never will. Why should I? It sounds as though you trust their reported take on things more than the news from our own nation.

What makes you say that? I do say our media is left leaning, but my post was not from their news source.

Uh, oh. It started

"KABUL, Aug 23 (Reuters) - A firefight involving Western forces erupted at Kabul airport on Monday when Afghan guards exchanged fire with unidentified gunmen, Germany's military said, adding to the evacuation chaos as Washington faces pressure to extend its deadline to withdraw."

That's not the source or the quote you used in the OP. I was responding to your OP, which quoted a Taliban leader. You quoted:

Yes. That was a quote from the article in the link I posted that explained 7 people were killed. It was not me saying everything is good. I think the whole country is screwed.

And with shots being fired, the evacuation is in peril.

Yes, they are. But our ppl are leaving and that's good. I still maintain that the Taliban wouldn't have been so successful, so quickly, if the Afghan army *and* the populace wasn't loaded with Taliban sympathizers. Our intel totally dropped the ball.

No, US knew the Taliban had power. Well documented.

Read the article christie posted, too
“Peace talks between the US and the Taliban started tentatively, with the Afghan government pretty much uninvolved, and the agreement on a withdrawal came in February 2020 in Qatar.

The US-Taliban deal did not stop the Taliban attacks - they switched their focus instead to Afghan security forces and civilians, and targeted assassinations. Their areas of control grew.”

Someone dropped the ball. The Taliban ravaged the country very quickly and seemingly unopposed.

I agree the populace was loaded with Taliban sympathizers, that's the only way they could have taken over so quickly and without a fight.
