We understand nuclear physics, plate tectonics, black holes, and neo-Darwinian evolution in a much better and more comprehensive way than we understand consciousness.

They are not really even in the same league. We basically have no widely accepted hypothesis or theory about the nature of consciousness. We are not even remotely close to a rudimentary understanding of it.

I don't care if physicists don't understand consciousness. Why should they? They don't believe in non-physical events.

I understand it. I start with a amoeba and work my way up the food chain and brain size, from that which least apprehends its environment to that which perceives it very acutely, respectively.
Your five senses evolved to perceive natural objects that can affect the organism, (shapes, sizes temp touch, texture, smell, pain, pleasure, color, sound, taste) and your brain organizes the electrical impulses of the sensory stimulation into representations of that. There, now you get it too.

People mystify consciousness for several reasons. One, religious people think it is God. Scientists think consciousness is just brain activity.

A current theory, which I agree with, is panpsychism. That everything has consciousness.

Starfish, field mice, and Sea slugs have sensory perception based on electrical impulses. That does not explain consciousness.

We do not even understand how organic chemicals organized themselves into self replicating prokaryotic cells. We are not even close to understanding it.

The best scientists on the planet consider consciousness a major scientific question.

I think it can be argued those are the biggest questions in scientific research.

Artificial Intelligence makes the biology of consciousness fairly irrelevant. The issue is intelligence, not self-consciousness.

So you tacitly agree that we understand nuclear physics, natural selection, and black holes in a way we do not understand understand abiogenesis and consciousness.
