My son is on the North Tarrant county SWAT team. I pretty pro police but I think the police shot too soon and it was a bad shoot. I showed the video to my son and he tends to agree. He says a lot depends on what the police dispatcher told the responding cops. He also said the guy with the AR should have slowed down like he was told to do. Also was it just me or did someone say "GUN" when the guy first came into full view of the cops.

Shotgun in a crowded area? HUH?

A .45 packs quite a punch, far more than a 9MM (which is a "scaled down" .38).

Yes, but it doesn't penetrate as far. .45 dumps the energy into the target and tends not to proceed as much further as 9mm does.

.38 special is pretty good, too.

Accidently? I'd agree they shouldn't on purpose, but that's hardly the case here.

You should know what's behind your target when you're shooting. That was irresponsible as can be.

It's not like the children churned out of leftist indoctrination centers aren't becoming police.

There's not always time to figure that out, but I think using a rifle in that situation was completely the wrong choice to make. It appears, as I said, some supervisor on the scene made that decision and it was a bad one.

The complete disregard for human life is criminal.
Accidentally doesn't matter to the mother who held her dying child.

Oh, so a crazy guy beating people to potentially death with a bike lock had a high regard for human life hum? The cops shot him just like they should have only they should have chosen to use a shotgun (they'd load #4 for that) or pistol with subsonic rounds. Either has far less effectiveness after hitting anything solid. The girl might still have been injured but she very likely would not have been killed.

In a short-range, interior location like that department store, there was no need for a rifle to be present whatsoever.

He didn't even aim it proper. Did he think the bike lock was going to fire back?

I know ..the whole armchair quarterback thing, but the cop should have assessed what was beyond his target.

That's 2nd nature when you're shooting anything.

I learned that the hard way way, but young..

The cop explained to us what was happening and we didn't do that anymore. Changed trajectory.

In these days we would be arrested and accused of all kinds of things we weren't doing.

Different times. Kids don't have guns so much these days. They really should, and learn to be responsible with them.

Someone with a "deadly weapon" (something that can do serious harm like a knife or in this case bike lock) who is within about 25 feet of you is a serious threat. It's really hard in that distance if they charge you to get a gun on target and shoot them. Do them before they get into that danger space.

The cop was in charge of the distance he was from dude with bike lock.

As for that video, what if one has to cock nothing and just point and squeeze a 13-lb trigger while keeping it on target?

When did I defend the criminal?

One criminal is dead, another was a cop who killed an innocent child.

Both can be true. A dangerous criminal doesn't excuse the criminal behavior of the cop.

I wouldn't go so far as criminal. Ignorant and irresponsible, yes.

A shotgun with a bean bag round would have been the right weapon to use.

A 12 ga. shotgun shell holds less than you think, even the 3" Mag. Then, there's the short barreled shotgun. You may as well throw a handful of rubber pellets.

I would say no shots should have been fired, at least from any distance. A chain is no match for a firearm. He could get close enough to make a clear presence.
