Los Angeles police fatally shot a 14-year-old girl in a Burlington Coat Factory while

A 12 ga. shotgun shell holds less than you think, even the 3" Mag. Then, there's the short barreled shotgun. You may as well throw a handful of rubber pellets.

I would say no shots should have been fired, at least from any distance. A chain is no match for a firearm. He could get close enough to make a clear presence.
A shotgun bean bag will knock the wind out of you. If you need it to be a lethal round just aim for the head.

True, I agree, but you have to be close enough to aim a short barreled shotgun because they are not accurate at distances. Still more than effective at a distance further than an idiot with a bike chain.
I'm not arguing. Someone said he shot with a rifle. I never heard how many rounds he fired. Do you know?

The cop with the AR fired 3 shots.[I think] The news said the 14 year old was hit with a ricochet.

Thanks.

3 rounds from an AR in a department store is stupid as hell. He probably didn't even aim, just pointed and pulled the trigger.
A ricochet possible, but it would have to hit something hard enough and retain enough weight to be lethal.
Assuming the AR is a .223, there can't be more than an 90 grain bullet, but most are in the 50 to 70 range.

If you watch the LAPD video carefully, the officer fired 3 rounds from his rifle. That would be how he was trained for something like that. He had it shouldered and aimed the fire. I suspect all three rounds hit the suspect but I don't know for absolute sure. However, these rounds would have sufficient velocity and penetration to carry well beyond the suspect and obviously did.

I haven't heard where the rounds landed, other than the one that struck the girl.
Yes, there's no question about the velocity and energy of a round out of an AR,
but in a department store? Maybe if the perp was armed with a firearm and is
threatening to or already shooting. But with a bicycle chain? If it was a lock chain,
it probably even had a plastic cover on it. Unless the perp was assaulting someone,
he needn't shoot, and even then, not without identifying himself.
I'm not anti law enforcement. I'm anti idiot with a firearm That includes law enforcement.

There were sufficient officers present that there had to be a supervisor, possibly even a lieutenant, present in the bunch. The call to arm anyone with a rifle was a big mistake, but one that falls on the supervisor. The officer armed with it likely followed LAPD procedure so it's really not his fault for what happened, but rather the supervisor's for calling for a rifle present.

I didn't read the specifics, and didn't know there were other cops present.
Yes, it was stupid to allow a rifle in a department store, it should have stayed in the trunk.
But an idiot fired 3 rounds out of it and a stray (miss) killed a young girl. He is responsible.
As you said, there were other officers present, all armed I would assume, and just one perp
with a bicycle chain.
If you wanna take them both down, so be it. The one who pulled the trigger is responsible
for where any bullet he fires goes. Any civilian would be responsible, and the left would have
it in on the nightly news for weeks condemning citizens carrying guns. Are cops above the law?
