Yale Study: Gas Cars Produce More Supply Chain Emissions Than EVs Regardless of mining, manufacturing, and charging practices, the lifespan emissions of an EV are minimal.

Electric vehicles offer a cleaner, lower-emission experience for consumers, but some skeptics have criticized the mining, manufacturing and charging practices necessary for their batteries as less clean than EV companies claim. However, a recently-published study depicts how minuscule the lifespan emissions of EVs are, especially when compared to those of fossil fuel vehicles.

Yale University conducted a study and found that the indirect emissions of EVs, from raw material to market, are far lower than those of fossil fuel-burning vehicles, according to a report from Anthropocene Magazine.

With many legacy automakers shifting to EVs, the results beg an important question about the true carbon costs of electrification.

Published in December in Nature Communications, the study used life cycle assessment and energy modeling tools to analyze and collect data about indirect emissions from conventional vehicles in comparison with EVs. Then, researchers calculated what a carbon price on those figures would cost and what effect it could have on the auto market.

The results suggest what many already assume — that implementing a carbon price could result in an entire phase-out of gas vehicles, speeding up emissions reductions significantly. However, in the past, critics have said that a worldwide switch to EVs would cause high indirect emissions from producing batteries and the use of electricity, while costing a fortune if a carbon tax was to be implemented.

This is just another example of the first level thinking of leftists. They will wipe out gas vehicles and the price of electricity will go through the roof. Sensible people would offer both gas and electric care and the competition they create will keep the prices of cars, gas and electricy in check but thats not what the left wants. All they see is gas bad electric good. We will all get fucked in the end

LOL. Why worry about electricity prices going through the roof when you can guarantee prices by putting electricity on your roof. For about $12,000 or a loan for that amount that you pay off over 10 years you can get electricity on your roof for the next 20 years. That means you won't have to pay anything for electricity no matter what the price is. Then you get free electricity for the next 10 years because your solar panels are paid for. That would be how a smart person takes care of the fear that electricity prices will rise drastically. But no one could ever confuse you with a smart person.

"But why didn't they talk about the price!?"

Because that's not what the point of the study was, dumbass. What price do you put on the earth?

It's not $12000 it's.more like $60000

The electricity the EV run on is predominantly generated from fossil fuels. So EV are really dino fuel machines.

The "they" want referring to the study cum gobbler. You realize don't you that the only damage we will ultimately do is to ourselves and not the planet? The planet will go on. This foolish statement about the price I put on the earth is childish and nothing but emotion. I don't care how you feel.

Here's the part where the gas hog Reichwingers jump up and down and scream that Yale is full of commies and we don't need no stinkin' green EVs in Murica.

ROFLMAO. You spend $600 or more a month for electricity on average? Even if you do, the return is the same. Your solar panels will be paid off in 10 years with no electric bills and then 10 years of no electric bills and no paying for solar panels.

No wonder you think others are stupid. You can't figure out a simple ROI.

No that's how much it costs to put panels on the roof. I spend very little on electricity right now

Let's do some simple math
An ICE car is about 20-30% efficient.
A gas power plant is 60% efficient. Charging batteries is about 85% efficient. Electric motors are about 90% efficient resulting in a total efficiency of 46%.

Having an electric car powered by a gas power plant is almost twice the efficiency of using an ICE car.

Or we'll see what we're seeing RIGHT NOW where both industries just decide to price gouge because they need higher year to year short term profits?

But you honestly believe when there are only electric cars the prices will be better?????

Never claimed ICE cars were efficient only that EVs were running on Fossil fuels so if we destroy fossil fuel production we also kill the fuel that EVs are running on. Biden has hurt Natural gas and oil production.

Really? Where do you live that it costs that much to put panels on your roof?

According to Consumer affairs the average installation in every state is less than $18,000.
https://www.consumeraffairs.com/solar-energy/how-much-do-solar-panels-cost.html

The only way it would cost $60,000 to put solar panels on your roof is if you are trying to get 3-4 times the normal electrical usage for your area or if you are a complete idiot who wants to be scammed. Since you already claimed you don't use that much electricity I guess we are left with the second choice.

But our fuel requirements will be less than half of what it currently is if we are all electric. That would mean we can cut our production by 50% and still meet our needs.
And that is before we factor in the increased renewables coming on line every year.

If you put solar panels on your roof in Dallas you would have to replace them every few years after hail storms.

In a state with a lot of sun prices don't go down. Supply and demand dictate prices not consumer affairs.

And our electric consumption would increase and our fuel to generate electricity would go up will our as gas production goes down because of restriction on drilling leases and fracking. Thanks Brandon Maybe we can all just freeze to death so that we all can still drive on EVs.

I'm not advocating for a monopoly either, I'm just being a realist. In an ideal world we'd be able to elect people with integrity and the means of production would be more widely distributed than to only the ultra wealthy.
