Yale Study: Gas Cars Produce More Supply Chain Emissions Than EVs.

I'm not getting rid of my gas guzzling, smog emitting, antique big block hot rod any time soon.

This is just another example of the first level thinking of leftists. They will wipe out gas vehicles and the price of electricity will go through the roof. Sensible people would offer both gas and electric care and the competition they create will keep the prices of cars, gas and electricy in check but thats not what the left wants. All they see is gas bad electric good. We will all get fucked in the end

they won't see it that way when the costs of goods and services sky rocket. Of course they voted that idiot Biden in and are experiencing exactly the same result. Maybe they are just too stupid to learn from their mistakes

Let's do some simple math
An ICE car is about 20-30% efficient.
A gas power plant is 60% efficient. Charging batteries is about 85% efficient. Electric motors are about 90% efficient resulting in a total efficiency of 46%.

Having an electric car powered by a gas power plant is almost twice the efficiency of using an ICE car.

What ExcessLies doesn't understand is The electricity the EV run on is predominantly generated from Natural Gas, which is one of the cleanest fossil fuels existing.

Natural gas was the largest source—about 40%—of U.S. electricity generation in 2020. Natural gas is used in steam turbines and gas turbines to generate electricity.

Coal was the third-largest energy source for U.S. electricity generation in 2020—about 19%. Nearly all coal-fired power plants use steam turbines. A few coal-fired power plants convert coal to a gas for use in a gas turbine to generate electricity.

Petroleum was the source of less than 1% of U.S. electricity generation in 2020. Residual fuel oil and petroleum coke are used in steam turbines. Distillate—or diesel—fuel oil is used in diesel-engine generators. Residual fuel oil and distillates can also be burned in gas turbines.

But don't bother ExcessLies with facts. He hates facts and prefers far right wing conspiracy theories.

I think that's just the bottom line.

What Joe Communist doesn't realize in EVs are still running off of natural gas which is a biproduct of oil production. You car runs BECAUSE of the power that the search for ICE fuel finds. Since Joe Communist was quick to point out that a significant portion of the electricity that his car runs on is filthy coal Ill point out that mine runs on clean 85% ethanol.

I will require someone I trust to check their work before I take it seriously...we get lied to constantly now.

You do realize that most electricity generated with natural gas uses a gas turbine. Gas turbine a ICE and thus lose efficiency ~ 40% and transmission lines ~4% also lose efficiency BEFORE those precious EVs even get a charge. And nasty coal is about ~ 40% efficient so that has to be factored in too.

Yale Study: Gas Cars Produce More Supply Chain Emissions Than EVs Regardless of mining, manufacturing, and charging practices, the lifespan emissions of an EV are minimal.

Electric vehicles offer a cleaner, lower-emission experience for consumers, but some skeptics have criticized the mining, manufacturing and charging practices necessary for their batteries as less clean than EV companies claim. However, a recently-published study depicts how minuscule the lifespan emissions of EVs are, especially when compared to those of fossil fuel vehicles.

Yale University conducted a study and found that the indirect emissions of EVs, from raw material to market, are far lower than those of fossil fuel-burning vehicles, according to a report from Anthropocene Magazine.

With many legacy automakers shifting to EVs, the results beg an important question about the true carbon costs of electrification.

Published in December in Nature Communications, the study used life cycle assessment and energy modeling tools to analyze and collect data about indirect emissions from conventional vehicles in comparison with EVs. Then, researchers calculated what a carbon price on those figures would cost and what effect it could have on the auto market.

The results suggest what many already assume — that implementing a carbon price could result in an entire phase-out of gas vehicles, speeding up emissions reductions significantly. However, in the past, critics have said that a worldwide switch to EVs would cause high indirect emissions from producing batteries and the use of electricity, while costing a fortune if a carbon tax was to be implemented.

THE ENTIRE STUDY IS SPECULATION.

IOW: TYPICAL EUPHEMISTIC LEFTIST BULLSHIT.

Do your math.
Which is more efficient?

Someone needs to educate me as to how we are going to produce all the batteries needed to facilitate a transition away from fossil fuels to battery-driven vehicles when the basic ingredients for batteries are all found in rare minerals such as lithium, cobalt, and zinc and others, all of which must be mined in countries not exactly friendly to us. Also, if you have ever driven on the Cross Bronx Expressway or the 405 in Southern California and were stuck in traffic, how exactly will the repair truck reach a disabled vehicle before their battery dies…along with the batteries of all the other vehicles in traffic?

Very long extension cords :dunno:

Factor in the fact that all wind and solar has to have thermo generation backup.

Yeah? And? I suppose you don't use brakes in your car because they don't stop your car immediately.

But your idiotic pivot doesn't defend your claim that EVs are not more energy efficient then ICE vehicles. I asked you to do the math on the numbers you presented. I did and it seems even with a 40% efficient gas production of electricity, it still is more efficient to use EVs vs ICE. Please provide us with your math that proves your claim is true. I'll bet you won't.
