(Would be kind of a big deal if a sitting Senator changed party’s, especially in a closely divided Senate.)

Party switching isn’t new. A total of 169 state legislators have switched parties since 1994. The changes have largely benefited the Republican Party, with 80 Democrats joining the GOP and only 23 Republicans becoming Democrats in the last 30 years.

The subject line is misleading. Murowski is not talking about leaving the party. She’s referencing voters who told her they were thinking about it.
