Their jail time awaiting trial in some cases exceeded the maximum penalty for the charges they faced. Some were denied attorney access. If some protester at that 3-hour riot did something criminal, fine, charge, try, and convict them. But don't deny them bail, don't deny them their right to legal counsel, and don't deny them all potential evidence for or against their charges.

In which case they could sue the government as the types of abuse you list get sued all the time and paid out.

Trump and his DoJ do not want this going to court as the cases would have no chance. They did the same to pay Mike Flynn when he would have no chance in court. They are trying to do the same with Ttump income tax case, again with no chance In court.

They are using the tax payer money to pay off Trump friends and allies by telling them to bring lawsuits they can't win and then settling them out of court.

The problem is, even if they win, they lose. Suing the federal government can easily run into the tens of thousands, even over $100,000. Few people have that kind of money to toss around and few lawyers will take a case that could last years before it is decided. The system itself is rigged against the people it supposedly serves.

There is no evidence that Dunn ever left the command post on J6 - but less was "assaulted". Most of the altercations during the Reichstag fire were mutual combat with CP instigating the violence. Not all, but the overwhelming majority was.
