A erroneous comparison in this discussion. You're comparing political parties to Non Official groups. As it stands in America, you have PAC's, donors, legacy fraternities and religious groups (or cults, if you like) that all have serious if not abnormal influence over our PUBLICALLY ELECTED governing leaders and representatives.

Hmm, that's news to the founders of this country who in spite of their individual religious beliefs made damned certain to include the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause in the First Amendment. That gives YOU freedom OF and FROM religion. Look it up.

3. As to your third link .... so what? Civil Rights movements and organized religion has been at odds with government policy before ... do your homework regarding MLK and his marches. And guess what, the establishments of many churches weren't too keen on rocking the boat and gave various clergy hell for participating in the Civil Rights movement. So everything old is new again.

The whole points out that for the Left politics replaces religion and becomes, de facto, the religion of the Left.
I don't think many Democrats think about how badly the culture wars have damaged the party's brand, nor do they even recognize it as a problem that needs to be fixed.
20 to 30 years ago, the Democratic Party was very competitive in the Midwest, in the Appalachian states, and they routinely won in Florida and Pennsylvania.
Those states are now routinely voting Republican now.
I want to win elections.
Those parts of the country tend to be economically populist but socially conservative. Telling them their religion and their religious values are actively harming America, and their religious values may actually be malignant is a guaranteed way to limit Democratic opportunities to mainly the West Coast and Northeast.
Democrats lost their base of Unions and Working Class Poor.

Religion is always anti-intellectual. Historically, religion is the enemy of learning and knowledge.
I'd quibble a little on that. The Catholic Church was well-known for scholarly research and the hoarding of knowledge. That was reserved for the hierarchy. Even Mass was done in Latin for centuries to keep the lay people from knowing what was said. OTOH more modern Christianity has promoted reading in order to get more converts with the Bible.
The anti-science stance seems to be an almost across-the-board attribute of most religions.

That's an interesting observation about the "identity politics" as the media calls it. I agree. We need to get back to focusing on what most people are concerned with: the economy, jobs, wages, inflation, health care, student loans, buying a home.
