Auto factory " machines " have nothing to do with it , it is all the engineers , Believe me I have gone behind some of them and showed them where they were fucked up .
Had a packing engineer show us and told us we had to load a certain part this one way , well we had been doing it another way getting about 305 pieces to a load , the way he said we had to do it they only got 200 to a load, so me and my partner stopped working went down to the suggestion office got the papers put our way of loading them in and ended up both getting $5000, just to tell them to load these parts the way we had been doing it for years.

Oh, I agree. Engineers are the enemy of the "just make something that'll work". They overdesign everything!
