Lots of citizens are fools. Some are poor. Some don’t speak English. Some illiterate. Some work crazy hours. You shouldn’t be prevented from voting for those reasons.

Then the birth certificate can be a foreign birth certificate if you are a naturalized citizen.

It is a poll tax if it costs money to get documents to prove your citizenship. Your absurd example is not relative to having to pay the government for documents to prove your citizenship. The government doesn't currently force you to pay money to the government to go register to vote.

Is it a poll tax if you have to drive or otherwise spend money to go to where you register to vote? How about the time and money necessary to do the paperwork? Is that a poll tax? If you have a birth certificate, and most people already do, then they aren't going to be "force(d)" to pay anything to register to vote. That you failed to retain an important document is on you, not the government.

Then what is the problem of presenting your photo ID to the election workers when you vote to prove you are the same person that is registered to vote. In states like California I could claim I was "Althea" and the election workers would have no way to know if I was or not.

Nobody is disenfranchising anyone Bucky. We are just requiring them to acquire their papers. They have to get a new license if they lose it and driving is less important than voting. There are 278,000 illegals registered to vote. Everyone that does vote disinfranchizes and American voters.
