Trump says these documents prove his false claims of election fraud. Here's what they really say

Me too. Define "responsible ownership". If it includes mentally stable, I agree. How do we test for that? The focus is upon banning "ARs" not better mental healthcare to prevent murder or, more commonly suicide.

BTW, most murders and suicides are done with a 9mm pistol. Is that the second step after banning ARs?
That should be part of the licensing are registration, and if we required insurance as well the insurance companies would insist on mental health evaluation to keep their payouts lower.

And again, I'm not talking about banning anything.

(although sometimes i pretend to because it drives the RWNJs into mouth-foaming fits, lol)

Disagreed since many of them would be loyal to the Constitution and not the Orange Satan or an autocratic state. Even if it's only a few, they would pass information to American partisans.

According many on this thread, the French should have just given up when the Germans invaded because they can't beat a superior military force. I disagree.

Guerrilla warfare requires the support of the population. Not everyone has to be a fighter, but most have to be willing to oppose those who seek to oppress them. Having the weapons to fight key to effective resistance. No doubt some people would just bend over and take it up the ass.

All that said, the first line of defense is not actually shooting the oppressors but presenting a credible force of resistance so strong that the oppressors don't even attempt to act. Disarming the public leaving only the authoritarians with arms is the opposite of that philosophy.

A partisan is a member of a domestic irregular military force formed to oppose control of an area by a foreign power or by an army of occupation through some form of insurgent activity.

The Power of Partisans

During World War II, Jewish partisans fought back against the Nazis and their collaborators from the forests of Eastern Europe, Ukraine and Belarus.

I'm gonna state my position and reason very simply.

I have been places where civil wars are happening. I've seen what it does to the people and the courty.

I will do almost anything to prevent that in my country.

Almost.

If we're going to require mental exams to exercise enumerated Constitutional rights, do you agree we should do the same for unenumerated rights like voting, driving a car or any occupation that could endanger others?

You aren't talking banning, but as you can see, many Democrats are pushing it.

Don't we already? You have to pass a competency exam to drive a car or be a plumber. If you are abviously mentally incompetent they will not let you do either.

And both are far less deadly than a firearm.

Examining the causes of those civil wars is a strong interest of mine as part of my studies in history, especially military history. Studying history tells us how we got from there to here and, possibly, where we are going.

It also tells us what works and what doesn't. People who don't study history end up repeating the mistakes of the past as George Santayana famously reminded us.* While I believe most people are average intelligence or better, most are ignorant of the history.

*example; the Congressional effort to cease Daylight Savings Time. It's been done before in the early 70s and found it didn't work. Mainly because most of the country is in darkness from 8AM to 9AM late Fall to early Spring.

US tried permanent daylight saving time once before. It didn’t last

The U.S. previously tried to incorporate permanent daylight saving time for a trial period from between 1974 and 1975.

The experiment occurred under former President Nixon, who signed the Emergency Daylight Saving Time Energy Conservation Act into law in an effort to conserve fuel following the Arab oil embargo in 1973.

However, the measure was quickly repealed.

It was deeply unpopular among citizens because it forced Americans and schoolchildren to commute in pitch-black winter mornings, leading to traffic accidents and other deadly incidents due to the lack of sunlight during certain hours.

In parts of the country, the sun did not rise until after 9 a.m.

That's not a mental health exam. Additionally, do you support one-time mental health checks of gun owners, voters, whatever or annual checks? If we decide to go that route, I favor annual exams just like physicals.

Some people are mentally ill all their life, but there are adult-onset mental illnesses and some people break mentally due to exterior events such as PTSD. Not just the military, but First Responders, people suffering trauma like the Texas flooding, tornadoes, California fires, etc.

Hence why the Democratic agenda remains focused upon banning our way to freedom just like the Republicans.
An oppressive society is not a free society. Is it really any wonder why most Americans don't trust either party?

It does not. I'm surprised that this issue makes you so irrational.

What's irrational about an armed citizenry? It's what the Founders intended.

When Trump sends his secret police to seize all the ballot boxes in your state, should you just bend over and take it?

Civilians possessing weapons of mass destruction is irrational in a peaceful, law-abiding nation. Again, ARs are not suitable for self-defense particularly in cities and suburbs. You know this.

It's always been about the idea of taking on the government. It's foolishness to think your guns are what keep us free and the government in line. I'm fine with civilian arms, but we don't need military-styled arms for any sane reason.

Classifying a semi-automatic rifle as a WMD is why I’ll never be a democrat. :)

Again, the fact the Democrats claim banning makes Americans more free proves they are on the same coin as MAGAts.

These are actual military arms which you seek to ban:

Not true, your fantasies about Democrats are unhealthy. Tell me how banning AR's and other high-velocity military-style arms touches any civilian arms or the majority of guns, for that matter. No slippery slope arguments will be accepted.

I agree 1000%. Unfortunately the NRA and the MAGAT priests and the gun makers have convinced the radical 2Aers that everyone on the left wants to not only ban all guns, but seize them too. I wonder what it's like to be so gullible and fearful that you'd believe that.

If money interests as the NRA existed in older times, you can bet that when they wanted to do away with lead paint, they'd say the government is coming for all the paint.

Are you denying those are weapons of war, Jade? Didn't you and Obama claim a desire to ban "weapons of war"?

AR-15s are civilian arms, sir. No special licensing required.

If Obama's 2013 gun control bill had passed, would you be satisfied with the level of gun control in the US or would you see it as a "good start"?

BTW, the "mental health" aspect was added later after the bill didn't pass the first time.

AR's are weapons modeled after weapons of war that never should have been made as a civilian option. You don't need that much firepower outside a warzone. Those modeled for warzone combat are the only ones we seek to do away with. They are useless in civilian areas, and only open the gates for massacre after massacre. Suppose they were to be kept. You would need licensing and training. In addition, they must be kept in a gun safe and cannot be carried in public areas.

26 States have no gun safe requirements. In addition there are 26 states you can open carry an AR without a permit. Educate yourself. And ah, AR's can come quite in handy in the right civilian area situation.
