Battleships made some sense in the past, they were steady platforms, and had huge guns that were long range. Missiles do not need steady platforms, and can be fired long range from patrol boats. That makes battleships just large targets.

The fact that no country on earth has a battleship, or is trying to make a battleship should tell everyone everything they need to know about modern battleships.

No, Wally. The NAVY wants to build a large modern missile and rail-gun platform (ship).
It will even have aircraft on it.

It will be quite capable of defending not only itself, but many ships around it, and is capable of projecting some amazing firepower.
