This was going around my grapevine recently......the entire British Army would comfortably fit inside a football stadium.

The paper’s exclusive says Pentagon officials are drawing up measures to push NATO allies toward the 5% target. Britain is slated for “special attention” because the June defence investment plan (from the Starmer period) is viewed as insufficient. When the official was asked specifically about changing the U.S. position on the Falklands, the reply was: conversations are “candid and nothing is being ruled out as far as options for encouraging the sort of burden-sharing that we seek.”
That is the closest thing to a threat. It is not an on-the-record statement from the White House, State Department, Pentagon leadership, or Trump. Elbridge Colby, the Pentagon’s top policy official, spoke on the record in Brussels this week about the UK needing to “step up” more than some other allies; he did not mention the Falklands.
Official U.S. policy has not changed. Washington still describes itself as neutral on sovereignty while recognizing the UK’s de facto administration of the islands. Secretary of State Marco Rubio used almost identical language in April when a leaked Pentagon email first floated using the Falklands as leverage after some NATO members declined to support U.S. operations against Iran. Rubio called that leak “just an email” and “overexcited.”
Yahoo, GB News and others ran with “US threatens” / “Trump threatens” headlines. Those are stronger than the sourcing supports. This is the same pattern as the April story: an anonymous or leaked Pentagon-level discussion recycled as settled administration policy. Whether the discussion is real inside the building is plausible given the broader NATO spending review; whether it becomes actual U.S. policy is a different question that so far has no named official attached to it.
