A Defense of a Liberal Arts Education

Thank you. Im not opposed to liberal arts education but when the definition of a word, which is early elementary education, cant be expressed by people with much higher levels of education, then something has broken down in my opinion. In my opinion its not an education problem its a culture problem.

I cherish my Liberal education. I got mine in at the tail end of before the change of it being a certain way it had been in America for 220+ years.
It's not what it used to be now. Critical Theory?

It isn't that long of a book. The thesis, Paolo Freire is a Brazilian Communist BTW, is essentially that you move the masses to your cause by educating them from youth in what you believe. That is the basis for the idea that all education is indoctrination.

I am so glad I got a board based traditional liberal arts education in High School.

We read books like All The King's Men, Julius Caesar, the Odyssey, A Separate Peace, Walden Pond, and Victor Frankel's Man's Search for Meaning. I took a clase that was almost as extensive as law school on the Constitution, and I took a History of the Soviet Union, to name a few. This education had me questioning the establish norms, and helped me to understand our current world.

My first thought, from a political perspective, is about the bolded. I can hear Libertarians say they question the established norms. Trump and his supporters would 100% say they question established norms. Bernie Sanders and his supporters would say the same thing.

Does one need a liberal arts education to question the established norms?

If I saw someone's resume' and it listed a liberal arts degree, I would ask them about it.

But the most important thing about it isn't the liberal arts part. It is the degree. It is sticking to your goals and staying on the path you chose.

Yeah, in my industry they care about where people go to school but I’ve never heard someone say “I’m specifically looking for someone with a liberal arts background”.
