California - not Alabama, Texas, or Tennessee - has always been a global leader in innovation

I repeatedly wrote that much innovation happens in California, not all of it.

It's objectively true that ever since World War 2, California has largely been the nation's epicenter for commercial and technological innovation and ideas. That's not my opinion. That is just fact.
This what you wrote: Why can't Texas innovate on it's own? - I answered that.

I also addressed your position on the idea that being more business friendly and having a lower cost of living is basically a bad thing.

Smerconish made a good point about AI and it was in their daily poll: which scares you more: AI escaping control or humans weaponizing AI?

I picked humans weaponizing AI along with about 70% of the voters.
I'm still in the stage of wondering whether my mind has been biased by movies like Terminator and Matrix. I need a lot more unbiased information before I decide Skynet is a realistic possibility!

No doubt that governments have to enact regulations to limit any adverse consequences.

^ The frenetic word-parser strikes again!

As a a native speaker of English, you're going to have to allow writers to use a little hyperbole. You knew good and well I didn't literally mean nothing has ever been innovated in the history of Texas, particularly since I had already repeatedly written that California does not have a monopoly on innovation.

On his show, Smerconish pointed out that the US and USSR entered into nuclear weapons talks to avoid a catastrophe. He said Trump’s upcoming meeting with Xi would be an opportune time to start discussions on AI tech. After all, it doesn’t do either nation any good to have hundreds of Third world nations or organizations having access to tech with the ability to create bio-weapons.

So define shithole?

The state with the worst education rate?
The state with the highest obesity rate?
The state with the worst education system?
The state with the worst GDP?

What is a shithole if its not Alabama?

I think everyone except Trump and his MAGA deadenders believe we need to establish guard rails, regulations, protocols for keeping AI systems from being misused.

FWIW, I’ve lived all across the United States, mostly across the southern tier from Jacksonville, FL to Santa Ana, CA and visited many others. All states have shitholes in them. Mostly in or near cities.

Back in the days before people wore GPS’s on their wrists or in their phones, I’d use the hotel computer to find a jogging route for a 3-5 mile run. A few times, such as in Cincinnati and Richmond, I crossed into areas that were definitely shitholes and I reversed course.

Agreed. The systems should be treated like WMDs.

Agreed.

And the WHATABOUTCHINA reason Trump and others cite to say it should not be regulated does not track.

no one, more than China, has proven willing to control, censure and lock out technology they feel can threaten their regime. They have always shut out the more harmful aspects of Social Media, and gone after even their most powerful tech companies and their owners.

so i think, China more than almost any other government on this planet would be fearful of an AI developing they could not control, could not keep their people from accessing and that could spur thoughts and conversations they could not direct or control.

So while i do not like China's way of trying to control thought, speech, technology, etc to that degree and i would never want to live under that, i do think it means, with regards to drafting some type of cooperative agreement on how to control future AI, China would be a reliable partner on that. Maybe moreso than the US would be.

At this moment that is true

Soon it won’t be

The American people are beginning to reassert their power
