In a road trip! Gas, $4.44 a gallon!

Whoa, lot of hate going on there, and how can one hate Boston, one of America’s iconic cities, and you don’t need a car in Boston

And running errands shouldn’t burn thru gas, and I play golf closer to home
Yes it has a lot of history and it's actually like SF in terms of being very neighborhood focused, but it's a very parochial city and I do not like the attitudes (or accents) of the people there. It is not a welcoming place. The weather sucks and I hate their sports teams. It is absolutely my least favorite City.

And how do you run errands on a bike? NYC is flat AF. SF is not.

Shit response. He is saying gas prices are far higher than they were in the past. He noted how much more he is paying. It has nothing to do with Cali's prices.
LOL, I bet you're fun at parties.

I paid over $7/gallon this week. So I'm suppose to know where Jarod is in the country and what the prices are there normally? If I went on a road trip and paid $4.44, I'd be celebrating.

Jesus Nordberg, rereadng your response I'm shaking my head even more.

Jarod never stated where he was. He asked if gas has ever been as high as $4.44. Well yes, I paid over $7 this week. That answers his question.

Do you think gas costs the same everywhere you are? Hell, there are three gas stations on Lombard St near me that all charge different rates.

To answer Jarod's question we would need to know where he is and we can then look up that station's pricing history.

So if you're going to talk sh*t, come a lot stronger my man.

Nah, your just one of those thin skinned calis, lucky you didn’t live in NYC, you really wouldn’t have liked their attitudes

Lol. I've dealt with New Yawkas and yes, it's different than Cali. But NYC is not as parochial as Boston. That's the difference.

1) F Boston.

2) I work out about 1 1/2 hours a day, 7 days a week, and there is zero chance I'm riding a bike up and down these SF hills. And am I suppose to put my daughter and all her sports gear on the bike as well? Bike out to the Olympic Club with my clubs on my back? No thank you.

3) F Boston. When I lived in that sh*thole I didn't have a car. Made it even more miserable because it was harder to leave.
San Francisco has to be a leader in car share platforms.

Growing up rural i had a car the day I turned 16 and bought a convertible summer car in my 20's with first business success.

But after living in downtown areas of big cities only for over a decade and finding i almost never drove anywhere i sold both and did car shares.

Was tough to do but do freeing once I did. Have not owned a car in 20 years now and car expense all in is less than $500 per year.

The big qualifier to me is what stage of life are you. If you're younger and single for instance, it's much easier to live without a car compared to having a family.

Can you take public transportation or Uber to all your kids different sporting events? I mean, it's technically possible but if you're paying for Ubers all over the Bay Area (for example) that would get mighty pricey.

No, you are supposed to be able to understand that Trump's war and policies have cranked the price up, and respond to it as an adult.

Elle Oh Elle!! Thank you for the laugh Nordberg.

This was my other response:

Was it ever this high
1) I think you mean "On" a road trip, not "in" a road trip.
2) Yes, it's been this high before (even HIGHER) in 2022.

Gas (at the station in my neck of the woods that I use to monitor the retail price of gas) has now fallen to $3.899/gallon. I'm sure it will be significantly lower again in about 2 months (IOW, about a month after the midterms).

I can't stop laughing.

Would an "adult" understand that if someone is claiming the price of X is expensive or cheap, sharing prior pricing is relevant to that understanding?

While i might agree that having young kids (family) in their busiest times might make car ownership over car share the better option i am wondering now if you have ever explored car share seriously as your default seems to be Uber and not a car share.

I have lived in big cities with competing car shares for 30 years now. From my downtown condo, i can book a car on my phone app and be in that car, usually as fast as someone can access our building parkade and be on the road in their own car. That is how many cars they have in their fleets and how close they tend to be my front door.

I pay for two car share services each with annual renewals of under $100/yr and then only when i use the car.

The one car service uses only Toyota prius and has more cars and is a service i can grab a car anywhere in the service and leave it anywhere in the service range (thus one way trips are an option), and the second service requires picking up and returning the car to its dedicated parking spot but their fleet has everything from convertibles, to sedans, to pickup trucks to mini vans to cargo vans, so when my nephew who goes to the local university here needed a moving van, i was able to show and help with one.

My annual car expense over the last 30 years has averaged less than $750/yr, all in. That includes gas, insurance and vehicle booking costs but not car rental when i am on vacation elsewhere. But even then my one car share is international and when i traveled in London England i had access to it there so i did not need a formal rent a car. i saved a lot of money by just using my car share on a 'needed only' basis.
