Do the humanities need a rebrand?

I've noticed that high school dropouts feel that professional employment in a large American corporation seems so exotic, so inaccessible and unimaginable to their life experience, that they assume nobody they run across could ever conceivably have worked in a Fortune 500 company.

It's not that that kind of job is unobtainable, it's that most people don't think the guy who uses AI and Wikipedia to make most of his points, who can't defend his own position in his own words and who screams like a stuck pig anytime someone disagrees with them could have worked such a job.

Which means what?
The humanities, traditionally, were about freedom of thought, speech, and ideas. They conceptualized ideas using thought experiments and looked at the 'real' world and tried to explain it.

Today, the humanities are far more--at least at most major universities--about radical Leftist ideas, indoctrination, and propagandization. They seek a political narrative and fit everything to it. Freedom of thought, speech, and ideas are squashed and trampled.

Undergraduate demand for philosophy at Harvard

Since the 2005-2006 academic year, the number of Arts and Humanities concentrators of all kinds at Harvard has decreased by 12.6 percent overall, according to data from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS), and some of the biggest concentrations have shrunk by more than half. Students studying English have dwindled from 276 to 117 in that period, with course enrollments down by 60 percent. History and Literature concentrators are down by 38 percent, Comparative Religion by 60 percent.

Philosophy, though, has more than doubled in size during that time. It is now the largest of Harvard’s Arts and Humanities fields, with 150 primary and joint philosophy concentrators as of 2025. That’s much smaller than Economics (953) and Government (589), the most popular University concentrations, but proportional to student body size, it’s about 10 times the national average.

Education broadens you. You learn art, history, science and many other things that make you more aware of how the world became what it is. Trump define and think of college as a publicly supported apprenticeships for Corporations.
