Trump faces bipartisan backlash over waiving Russia sanctions

Washington — President Trump is getting bipartisan blowback over his surprise decision to waive new sanctions on Russia two days before they were to go into effect.
....................
“Beyond irresponsible,” GOP Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina said of the president’s latest move, calling it “unconscionable that this administration is capitulating to a Russian dictator who illegally invaded Ukraine and butchers innocent civilians every single day.”

“If the president wants to actually bring down energy prices, he can do it by solving the Iran problem, not by doing a solid for Vladimir Putin,” Tillis added.

. . . . . . .

GOP Sen. John Cornyn of Texas agrees and said of the sanction waiver, “Lindsey would be appalled.”

“Helping Putin in Ukraine is reckless,” Cornyn said. “He would not stop with Ukraine and our NATO allies would be next. Putin is fanatically committed to restoring Russia’s glory days, calling the collapse of the Soviet Union “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century” and claiming Russia was “robbed” in the breakup.”

Sen. Kevin Cramer, a North Dakota Republican, said on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan” that he shared his colleagues’ position, arguing that “capitulating to a bully generally means they’re going to make more demands going forward.”

Okay, there are 2 alternatives. World War III or continue feeding a losing side with money and arms.

So enriching and empowering a country who can trigger WW3 now or in the future is the appeasement path you think best?

Just let Russia take the neighboring countries it wants to take over and do not help them to avoid WW3??

Are you at all aware of how that exact appeasement plan played out and lead to WW2 when it was decided to just let Hitler and Germany take a few neighbors and lets avoid war with them?

Russia needs needs to be treated better by the West. Pushing NATO up to it's borders is antagonistic action.

Russia wanted Ukraine to get rid of its nukes and signed a security agreement guaranteeing they would not be attacked if they did. Then they attacked them, twice.

That you trust Russia and keep saying versions of 'just trust Russia' and 'if only we were better to Russia', makes you worst kind of useful idiot. The same kind that handed Hitler and germany all its power and then blamed others.

You sound like Chamberlain with his claims that it would be WWII or giving the Sudetenland. Chamberlain's argument won out, and there was "peace in our times" during the early 1940's.:bigthink:

If the West hadn't funded this proxy war, Russia's incursion would have been long over.

What did the top US diplomat have to say on the subject? It would seem to me that that is all that really matters.
What actually matters is that Trump is helping Russia continue its war with Ukraine to minimize damage in midterms.... damage the he cause by attacking Iran.

Why are you so afraid of calling it a war? Putin bans it from being called a war, but you do not live in Russia, do you?

Had the Ukrainians been unwilling to fight to defend themselves and their children, this war would have been over long ago, and Putin would have been murdering millions without resistance. Do you really think that would be a better outcome?
