60% of Americans did not go to college.

I hate to rain on the condescension parade here, but going to college will not make an idiot suddenly become intelligent or perceptive.
For many, it's just the purchase of a piece of paper that verifies attendance.

UNLESS ONE MAJORS IN HARD SCIENCES, LIKE ENGINEERING, MEDICINE, PHYSICS, ETC.AT SERIOUS A SERIOUS SCHOOL.

To put it another way, I came from a poor working class back ground and before my father succeeded to rise to middle class I was already college age. So I went to an average State University busted my butt in a STEM field and went on to graduate studies and I'm damned proud of what I accomplished. It took a lot of hard work and sacrifice.

But in no way have I ever thought that its made me better than anyone else. Maybe that is reflected in the fact that most of my friends don't have a college education. Though I have quite a few who do. Some of those who don't earn far more than I do but even my friends who don't have a college education respect that I was talented in the life sciences and always have been so no one was surprised that this is what I pursued as a career path. I can enjoy myself as much at an old fashioned hog roast as I can an evening at a four star restaurant.

You mentioned growing up around folks who weren't necessarily the most sophisticated but would give you the shirt off their back and do anything for you. Compare that to the rich kids who go to the Ivy Leagues or elite East Coast liberal art schools and learn about financial derivatives and then go to Wall St. Is the world lacking for those types? Do we necessarily need more of them? (Of course it's not a simple either/or binary choice there but just making a point.)

It's a strawman. No one is arguing their doctor who is going to perform heart surgery should do so after watching an internet video. But there are numerous jobs where the skills can be learned without spending ten of thousands of dollars on a degree.

I will admit there are jobs you can learn "well enough" from watching a Youtube video, but right now it appears to learn well, you need to go to a regular school. America excels when at least some people can do a job extremely well.

Orville Redenbacher comes to mind. While he predated Youtube videos, if he lived today, he could learn how to make popcorn from a Youtube video. Instead, he studied the heck out of popcorn. The New York Times referred to him as a, "the agricultural visionary who all but single-handedly revolutionized the American popcorn industry." That was from real education, among other things.

Decades ago, when I first went to college, everyone got a Pell Grant, which could be several thousand dollars. Now, those grants are not so generous.

And states cut funding to their state universities.

Right wingers like blaming students for taking out loans, but they are force to when other funding dried up.

The Boomers got very generous education, while the each subsequent generation has gotten less. It is not like college has gotten cheaper.

There are a number of Democrats who aren't Bernie lovers themselves. Not everything is black and white.

I agree, many Democrats disagree with Sanders, but you really do not see the complete hate that Republicans have for Sanders.

u

I'm a boomer and always a little puzzled when I hear their progeny dis them 24/7. Wealth begets wealth.....the lion's share of our upper class today arrived on the scene flush with cash courtesy of Brokaw's 'Greatest Generation'....like most all Ivy League grads for example. Boomers were actually out in streets fighting and raising hell over Vietnam and economic inequality.....when they were today's Millennial age. We had to go through Reagan's two recessions, then started having kids and then had to go to work and pay to raise the same kids bashing them today. This always happens btw.

None of the Recessions Boomers faced compare to the 2009 Great Recession and the 2020 pandemic, both of which Millennials suffered through when they were either new to the job market, or trying to raise children with schools closed.

I have no sympathy for boomers. Not because I feel like they got too good of a deal in the 60s and 70s, but because they're such insufferable, conservative twats today.

I'll speak for myself but I feel like I speak for many others as well, I disagree (strongly in some cases) with a fair amount of what Bernie wants but I don't hate him. By claiming people hate him attempts to make it personal, and thus easier to dismiss, rather than focus on the disagreements with his positions.

From hippy druggies to Trumpistas Boomers weren't a very good generation.

LMAO! 99% of millennials are either still living at home or still being supported by their boomer parents. STFU.

The Alt Right especially hate Sanders. It is very personal to them. I doubt him being Jewish makes it any better.

Dude, every Republican is alt-right to you. The funny thing is many Trump supporters like Bernie. Not in the sense that they want him to be President or support all his ideas but in his own way he's definitely anti-establishment and he took on Hillary and then Biden. You're viewing this from a personal lens and missing the big picture.

Are you really this naive? Who do you think sets trade policies? Who do you think allows immigration both legal and illegal? I did not get your point about feminist workers, but hey.

It's a Capitalist first policy, where businesses have the Individual freedom to hire immigrants or outsource.

I don't necessarily have an issue with Feminist workers.

Women simply flooded the job markets too rapidly causing stagnating wages.

The only trade policies, capitalist or not are set by our government. That includes immigration and outsourcing. Ever wonder why no American business does trade with N.Korea or why they do not have any call centers there for example?
