Now that Trump has set this stage for the government to take long term equity and golden share controlling stakes, while then using the power of giving them contracts to ensure they succeed i agree with Bernie Sanders that the Dems should embrace and maximize it. Use it as a way to push and even create industries and ensure they get the funding, via buying their shares, and contracts they need to succeed.
Prior to Trump this was derided by the Republicans and called a form of Socialism and was said to be wrong as it was the government 'picking winners and losers', which can have immense moral hazard, but i am now not just embracing this but will find common cause with magats here like @T. A. Gardner who defend it and i say the Dems must not just embrace it but maximize it as a way to get their initiatives into the public sector.
As Terry would say in defending Dems doing this ..."not socialism", thus ok.

Senator Bernie Sanders supports government equity stakes in private companies, notably proposing legislation for public ownership and voting control in major artificial intelligence firms and to support the Green Energy Sector. [1, 2, 3]
The Trump administration has announced or completed equity stakes in 43 private companies, according to tracking by policy analysts at Semafor and the Cato Institute. [1]
Who else will join hands across the left right divide with Terry and i and agree that the left should not just embrace this but be prepared with a whole list of companies that they utilize government money to take stakes in and control as a way to steer the future of industry?Conservative economist and former Trump advisor Stephen Moore has criticized the Trump administration's policy of acquiring equity stakes in private companies, warning that government ownership acts as a form of corporate welfare and Socialism and leads to excessive market intervention. [1, 2]
Key Stances by Stephen Moore
- Opposition to Government Stakes: Moore has stated that the federal government buying private sector assets is a bad idea that mimics corporate welfare. [1, 2]
- Market Efficiency: He argues that private markets and alternative financing (such as private credit) allocate resources and fund innovation far more efficiently than government intervention. [1, 2]
- Risk of Regulation: Moore warns that government ownership gives the state leverage to dictate corporate actions and impose unwanted regulations on private enterprise. [1]
- Skepticism on Broad Claims: While Moore has generally praised broad economic initiatives or deregulation under Trump (such as changes at the FTC), he has remained skeptical of heavy-handed state involvement in company equity or over-promised investment figures. [1, 2, 3, 4]
As Terry would say in defending Dems doing this ..."not socialism", thus ok.
