Accepting Nomination From White House Lawn Violates Hatch Act

Disagreed, but, as you point out, they are not the sole problem. Teacher's have kids for about 8 hours a day, even during recess and lunch, 5 days a week for over 8 months of the year for 12 years. Certainly that has impact on the morals and values of the students. IMO, so much impact that it is only second to the parents and nothing else.

If the teachers are immoral, liars, hypocrites, thieves, dishonest and worse, then how can that not be transferred to the students so that the students grow up just like the teachers?

Remember those tear-jerking ceremonies about some guy who is being celebrated and he mentions his old teacher "Mrs. Winstead" for teaching him something that got him on that platform? If we polled every American student, how many would say something like "I learned about lying from Mr. Smith" or "I learned about hypocrisy and fucking over people from Ms. TOP"?
You should poll/interview my former students... only then you can put their comments in quotes;) Right?

Sooooo....your only comment is to be Ms. Grammar Nazi?

Is that tacit admission that everything else was correct; just poor use of quotation marks? Sorry, but you're wrong there. I specifically said "something like". They are not verbatim quotes. They are examples.

I guess you've not been in a classroom for a very very long time....you should schedule a visit;)
When it comes to "instructing children about honesty, truthfulness and justice for all"...where should that instruction begin?

Why? You claim to be a teacher and your values are on display every day. Are you admitting you are a bad teacher and that if I sat in a classroom then I'd see mostly teachers who are honest and truthful, not hateful liars and treacherous hypocrites?

This is a person who followed an innocuous leftie poster around mocking her frequent typos, because she had had a stroke that left her with severe visual impairments. Imagine the thought of someone who pretends to be an ex-SPED "teacher," calling a stroke victim "mushbrain." Nice.

BTW, I've noticed a couple of Toxic typos today but refrained from laughing at them. Maybe I shouldn't try so hard to Be Best.

It's very easy to see who has lifelong issues from the combination of poor parenting/uncaring teachers when you look at what's happening these days...we've heard the sad stories/confessions here.....
But the success stories IRL far outnumber the failures;) That's what teaching is all about;)

Well, I am a teacher...retired now....
Go and volunteer...especially now....then get back to me;)

I see your point. It does make you wonder how many ppl are in prisons or in therapy because, among other things, they had racist, cruel, dishonest, and/or mentally-ill instructors when they were children. Uninvolved parents at home + poor teachers in school = lifelong issues.

My guess is the vast majority of them. It's a cycle that must be broken but how we break it is a matter of debate. The Democrats want to tax a lot of money than force it upon all Americans with a singular government, like Big Brother, taking care of everyone for their own good....and for the children.

The Republicans think they'll be fine because 1) most go to private schools, 2) or live in high income areas allowing better quality teachers and facilities and/or 3) it's up each school, each city and/or each state to figure it out on their own.

With both sides moving further into their corners, less and less is getting done. Look at the promises made by both Trump and Biden. Look at what it would take for each to implement those plans.

It's great to say "We want common sense gun laws!" I think most Americans agree. The problem is the legal definitions for "common sense gun laws". Since both sides don't trust each other, either they each seek to totally dominate the other and force their beliefs upon them or nothing gets done. Mostly, thankfully, nothing gets done due to the structure of our goverment.

The main problem I see is that both the Democrats and Republicans are slowly dismantling our laws including our Constitution.

More completely fabricated stories ....never fails to amaze me, that "creativity"....

WRONG AGAIN. = WHY "WIKI" IS A JOKE.

THE HATCH ACT DOESN'T APPLY TO A SITTING POTUS OR VP, TWIT.

Office of Special Counsel confirms Trump can deliver convention speech from White House

(CNN) — The US Office of Special Counsel said in a letter Wednesday that President Donald Trump could deliver his Republican National Convention speech from the White House.

The letter from Erica Hamrick, the deputy chief of the US Hatch Act Unit, comes in response to a request from Rep. Carolyn Maloney, a New York Democrat who's the chairwoman of the House Oversight Committee, for an advisory opinion after Trump earlier this month floated the idea of delivering his speech accepting the Republican nomination on White House grounds. The letter was made public in a news release from Rep. James Comer, a Kentucky Republican who is the ranking member on the committee.

"The President and Vice President are not covered by any of the provisions of the Hatch Act. Accordingly, the Hatch Act does not prohibit President Trump from delivering his RNC acceptance speech on White House grounds," Hamrick wrote.

How many Federal employees were involved in the planning and execution of the broadcast- that is, engaged in this particular political activity while on Federal property ?

It's sad when teachers, ministers or other public leaders teach hate and ridicule.

Awesome. So you admit to being a hypocritical and lying teacher. That's sad. Are most like you or are you a rare "gem"?

About 1543....plus the token Russian, Israeli and Chinese spies. Why do you ask?

Hello ThatOwlWoman,

I see your point. It does make you wonder how many ppl are in prisons or in therapy because, among other things, they had racist, cruel, dishonest, and/or mentally-ill instructors when they were children. Uninvolved parents at home + poor teachers in school = lifelong issues.

Well, if we were to have a more logic-based society then we would identify the psychological requirements for raising a responsible human member of our society from birth to adulthood and then see that as many individual lives begin that way as possible.

It could be reduced to an 18 year child-raising checklist to be completed by the parents.

Not that every parent would be able to do it if they don't understand the need for each item because they never got it them selves.

But it wouldn't hurt to have a document publicly available.

You know, it would include stuff like the Boy Scout Law:

"Scout Law: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent*."

(*except I would modify the last one.)

Certainly, anybody who can check all those boxes by age 18 would be a good member of society.

I spect not a single critter is not guilty of violating that Hatch Act....that's my point. I am not interested in hearing any bitching that Trump is working from home during the pandemic based upon offense that he is violating a law that everyone breaks.

Keep in mind too that I have argued that there are so many laws and so many vague laws and so many otherwise poorly written laws and the DA are so abusive that they twist words to make people that they want to get guilty that the power of the government can come get just about anyone they want to get just about any time they want to get them.

The Hatch Act does not prohibit federal employees from engaging in political activity in off-duty hours. It also does not apply to the president, vice president, Congress, or the judiciary.

"Nonetheless, there are certain exceptions and limitations to the Act’s scope. The President, Vice President, members of the uniformed services, and Government Accountability Office employees are expressly excluded from coverage. Also, because the definition includes only executive branch employees, the Act does not apply to the judicial or legislative branch, unless such employees are expressly included in the competitive service. Employees of all three branches, however, are still subject to various provisions of federal law relating to political corruption or campaign finance."

Hello moon,

How many Federal employees were involved in the planning and execution of the broadcast- that is, engaged in this particular political activity while on Federal property ?

More than enough to implicate DT for organizing the whole thing.

Hello Flash,

As T. A. Gardner pointed out only elected officials are exempt. That means everybody who set up the chairs, worked security, set up the sound system, all the flags, the lights, everything. If they are federal employees they are all in violation of the Hatch Act, and all at Trump's direction, making him complicit in the crime. That's collusion.

Which has always been true of many presidential activities under Obama, Bush 43, Clinton, Bush 41.........Giving an official speech ( like a graduation ceremony) during an election campaign is very political but paid for my taxpayers using many federal employees.

I wonder if respect for the laws and institutions will return when Trump loses? He certainly shows no respect for laws. He bragged about breaking laws as a builder. His attitude carried over to the White house. Should Biden respect the Hatch Act. Trump has shown future presidents that laws can be ignored. Rightys who do not care that Trump ignores them will scream when another president does it.
Public employees are made very aware of of the Hatch Act. They are quite conscientious of staying inside the lines. Can they be charged now?
