What being atheist requires is a minimum threshold for belief. That's it.

Atheism is not a religion. You are not an atheist.

Christians: "No."
Me: "Then I don't believe it."

The Soviets suppressed religion in favor of what they called scientific atheism. Scientific atheism was supposed to be the final answer and ultimate arbiter of life, the universe, and everything.

Science has no religion. Science is completely atheistic.
Atheism doesn't suppress anything.
The Church of the State is a fundamentalist style religion.
The Universe is not an arbiter.
The Universe is unorganized.

But I don't think Lenin, Stalin, and Khrushchev really knew anything about science, and did not understand that science describes, it does not explain.

Science is a set of falsifiable theories, Cyborg. A theory is an explanatory argument.

"Evidence" that would be insufficient to convince you of anything that wasn't the Christian god. Evidence that wouldn't convince you of the existence of any other gods. Since you want to believe in the Christian god, the evidence becomes sufficient.
