Being human is hard, this pair of psychologists say. Could accepting we don’t have free will make it easier?

Right, only fringe in the sense It's conclusions have not been widely accepted in the scientific community.

The Libet study seems to be from 1983, which is ancient by the standards of neuroscience.

An subconscious electrochemical signal four milliseconds before someone lifts an arm does not disprove we have veto power or the agency of deliberation
So, Libet had no free will to do the experiment? The contradictions are enormous.

In other words Murphy posted a fringe scientific study that has come in for widespread criticism in the scientific community, and tried to pass it off here as the accepted scientific consensus
Watch the video if you find it fringe. Nova is hardly a fringe outfit

There are also split brain experiments which point to the brain’s ability to create a post hop justification of decisions. Read “Who’s in Charge” by Gazzanigga

It's getting ridiculous how often you name drop people you've never read, and misrepresent what they believe.

"Renowned neuroscientist Michael S. Gazzaniga argues that while the physical brain is completely automatic and governed by deterministic laws, personal responsibility and freedom still exist as real concepts at the social level." [1]

Hey I can’t care less if this interests you. I find it amazingly interesting.

I like science.

Hey make of it what you will. I understand it is scary and you are more into philosophy masturbation than science. That’s cool
You never gave a definition of free will. Oh, right, explaining the words you use is "masturbation."

And you are clearly dumb in some areas. Maybe science is not your strong suit
"Dummett draws a sharp line between philosophy on the one hand and natural science on the other. He regards "scientism" -- the tendency "to regard the natural sciences as the only true channel of knowledge" as the greatest threat to philosophical progress today."

The vast majority of people do not explain the world through scientific explanations. This is because science does not even try to explain actual human behavior.

Cool beans
